Synopsis (Goodreads):
Ruthless and brilliant, Vishous, son of the Bloodletter, possesses a destructive curse and a frightening ability to see the future. As a pretrans growing up in his father's war camp he was tormented and abused. As a member of the Brotherhood, he has no interest in love or emotion, only the battle with the Lessening Society. But when a mortal injury puts him in the care of human surgeon, Dr. Jane Whitcomb compels him to reveal his inner pain and taste true pleasure for the first time-until a destiny he didn't choose takes him into a future that cannot include her...
My Thoughts:  Hey, do you guys remember how once I was all "I never cry.  I'm totally emotionless when sad things happen."?  Do you remember that?  You know what?  Ever since I started reading this series that has been a total LIE!  I am a liar.  Because every single one of these Black Dagger boys has made me weepy and emotional and OMG! DOES THIS MEAN I'M NOT A ROBOT LIKE PEOPLE HAVE ALWAYS TOLD ME???

Besides making me a liar, these books are amazing in that they don't have heroes with cookie cutter problems.  V is a mess.  But he's a mess in a totally different way than Zsadist or Wrath or Rhage or Butch or Phury are.  The guy has some issues.  And who can blame him?  He had a really crappy childhood and a really crappy dad and his mom kinda gives me a sour lemon face because she allowed things to happen to him that should never have happened.

*deep breath*

Yes, I get very involved in the lives of well written characters.  It's true.  I own that personality flaw.  I OWN it.  The point here is that if J.R. Ward hadn't written these boys so dynamically I wouldn't be sitting here cursing the pain she's brought down upon them.  So I get to blame her for my fall from robot-like emotionless-ness.  Yeah, that probably not a word, but once again I'm owning it!  I AM NO LONGER EMOTIONLESS!

Vishous.  Poor, poor V and his man-love for his best friend and his crushing loneliness and his destiny and his love for a little domination in the bedroom.  I just adore the guy.  I mean, I had a soft spot for Zsadist before I ever read his book but V has always kind of been a mystery.  He keeps himself apart from everyone, including the other Brothers, and that's made him hard to get to know.  Then we get to this book and the poor guy gets to spill his metaphorical guts (and his literal guts, come to think of it) and he's amazing and sad and smart and I just want to give him a giant hug.

Yes, I do love this book.  I love this series.  I love these Black Dagger boys.  I'm owning this, guys.  I love them and I'm not afraid to admit it.

  2. Not sure if I'm up to this one or not. Just read the back cover... there will be tears, won't there? Too late, started it anyway. I'll keep you posted.

  4. A little over half way through. Woke up this morning and had to pick it up. Come on, John, Phury, V? Can't keep up with all the emotional overload in this one.

  5. creativedeeds: I think that was one of the big reasons why I had to take a break from these books- I went into emotional overload. Those boys just kill me dead every time.
