Review: Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night (Immortals After Dark #4) by Kresley Cole

Synopsis (Goodreads):
Her breathless kiss haunts him...
Bowen MacRieve of the Lykae clan was nearly destroyed when he lost the one woman meant for him. The ruthless warrior grew even colder, never taking another to his bed -- until a smoldering encounter with his enemy, Mariketa the Awaited, reawakens his darkest desires. When sinister forces unite against her, the Highlander finds himself using all his strength and skill to keep her alive.

His slow, hot touch is irresistible...
Temporarily stripped of her powers, Mari is forced to take refuge with her sworn adversary. It's rumored that no one can tempt Bowen's hardened heart, but soon passion burns between them. Though a future together is impossible, she fears he has no intention of letting her go.

No deed is too wicked for her seduction...
If they defeat the evil that surrounds them, can Mari deny Bowen when he demands her body and soul -- or will she risk everything for her fierce protector?
My Thoughts:  Considering how much I've been enjoying the books in this series, I'm kicking myself for how long I left them sitting on my shelf unread.  I keep coming back to how fun these books are.  I end up with a ridiculous smile on my face and a deep, dark yearning to start the next one immediately.

There were so many things I enjoyed here.  Let me see if I can manage a semi-coherent list:
  • Mari and Bowen's encounter in the tomb.  Hot.  I love that she's aggressive sexually and isn't afraid to jump in with both hands.  So to speak.
  • I mentioned this in my review for No Rest for the Wicked but I totally love how the events in the books have overlapping timelines.  This book starts during day 3 of the Hie and cover the end of the race and the time directly after.
  • Without being spoilery, I thought that what was done to Bowen 200 years ago was utterly heartbreaking.  I loved it, I thought it worked wonderfully for the story, but the ramifications of what was done made my heart break.  Just... *pets Bowe*
  • Mari's pocket rocket.  Lol!  Loved it!  And why shouldn't a young witch at the height of her sexuality carry around a pocket vibrator to take care of any issues that arise?  Beyond that, I loved how Bowen uses his knowledge of it to embarrass her into conceding to his demands.
Fun, guys.  That's the word I'm sticking with.  I have fun reading these books.  I like the characters.  I like the world.  I like that the secondary characters introduced have a good chance of getting their happily ever afters in later books.  I just like this series.
