Review: Crescendo (Hush, Hush #2) by Becca Fitzpatrick

Synopsis (Goodreads):
Nora Grey's life is still far from perfect. Surviving an attempt on her life wasn't pleasant, but at least she got a guardian angel out of it: a mysterious, magnetic, gorgeous guardian angel. But, despite his role in her life, Patch has been acting anything but angelic. He's more elusive than ever and even worse, he's started spending time with Nora's arch-enemy, Marcie Millar.

Nora would have hardly noticed Scott Parnell, an old family friend who has moved back to town, if Patch hadn't been acting so distant. Even with Scott's totally infuriating attitude Nora finds herself drawn to him - despite her lingering feeling that he's hiding something.

Haunted by images of her murdered father, and questioning whether her nephilim bloodline has anything to do with his death, Nora puts herself increasingly in dangerous situations as she desperately searches for answers. But maybe some things are better left buried, because the truth could destroy everything - and everyone - she trusts.
My Thoughts:  I had a tough time reading this book yet I still ended up liking it and I'm trying to find a way to put this so that it makes sense.  Let's see... I think I liked Patch more in this book than in the first (and that's saying a lot because I really liked him in Hush, Hush) and I like how he's evolving as a character.  I like that he's balanced on the edge of a choice.  I like that he got his wings back (at the end of book 1) and yet he still has that fallen angel mentality.  On the other side of the coin, I wanted to throttle Nora through a good portion of this book.  I get that she's trying to work out her issues and Patch isn't the most forthcoming individual but every time she confronted him to get answers she would walk away without letting him explain why he did something that looked damning.  It was seriously starting to drive me crazy.

Well, I guess that gives me an answer as to why I had a tough time with this book.  I'm sorry, but an unwillingness to listen is one of those things that makes me twitchy.  Especially when you have a sexy ex-fallen angel trying to give you the answers you're looking for.

If I close my eyes and ignore my issues with Nora I can say that I definitely enjoyed this book.  I adore Patch.  I think the secondary characters are fantastic.  I like the situations that Nora is put in and how she works her way out of them.  I just didn't care for the way Nora bulldozed over all of Patch's explanations without giving him the benefit of doubt.  Honestly, I think Patch has been beyond patient with her tempermental emotional tantrums.

Like I said, I liked the book.  OMG! That ending killed me.  I'm dying to know how book 3 is going to play out.  So, yeah.  I liked it.  I just don't love it because I wanted to lock Nora in a room with herself for the bulk of the book.

  1. I just finished this one. It was sent to me as an ebook and when I got to the end I thought that there was a glitch in the file. I kept thinking "there's got to be more than this!" Guess not huh? These cliff hangers are going to kill me! The only saving grace is that I don't have to wait long for Silence. Thank God!
