Review: Darkest Mercy by Melissa Marr

Darkest Mercy (Wicked Lovely #5) by Melissa Marr
Synopsis (Goodreads):
The Summer King is missing; the Dark Court is bleeding; and a stranger walks the streets of Huntsdale, his presence signifying the deaths of powerful fey.

Aislinn tends to the Summer Court, searching for her absent king and yearning for Seth. Torn between his new queen and his old love, Keenan works from afar to strengthen his court against the coming war. Donia longs for fiery passion even as she coolly readies the Winter Court for battle. And Seth, sworn brother of the Dark King and heir to the High Queen, is about to make a mistake that could cost his life.

Love, despair, and betrayal ignite the Faery Courts, and in the final conflict, some will win...and some will lose everything.
My Thoughts: I had the hardest time starting this book. Frankly, I didn't want this series to end so I kept putting this book off and putting it off. Now I've buckled down and read it and I'm STUNNED by how beautifully Melissa Marr took all the threads for all her characters and gave them the type of send off they deserved.

The Summer Court has been weakened by Aislinn's love for Seth and Keenan's love for Donia. With the two of them divided in love, they are easy pickings for Bananach. The Dark Court is a seething mess. The Winter Court is strong but can't stand alone against Discord. The lands of Faerie have been closed. Things are not looking good. Faeries die. Bargains are struck. Loopholes are found. The final battle is stunning. It's bloody and dark. War is brutal and many of the immortal fey fall beneath it.

I was so incredibly pleased by the way this series played out. Each of the main characters are given their chance to shine and the choices they make aren't always ones you see coming. Yet, it's perfect. I'm sad to say goodbye but I'm so glad I didn't miss out on this journey.

    1. She does a beautiful job with it. I went into it so afraid that it wouldn't do justice to everything that came before but... it does.

    3. Yay! *whispers* Should I tell you that there's a love triangle? But it's very convoluted. And the overriding arc rides on it, so it's not a gratuitous triangle. And it's also not your normal type of triangle. And there's also a threesome (a relationship threesome, not a sexy times threesome. Actually, I assume that they have the sexy times, it just isn't shown. Huh.). A YA threesome. It's AWESOME!

    1. I have two copies of the first book because I bought it originally on my Kindle and when she came to town for a signing I couldn't have all the rest of the series signed and not book 1. Lol!

  4. LOVED this series and, like you, I had such a hard time starting this last book because I didn't want the series to end. But end it did and Marr did a fantastic job with it. I have to say, I'm very happy with all the HEAs!

  5. I really enjoyed this series. I remember when we were leaving Aislinn and Seth I was so sad. But I think the 2nd book is my favorite of the series. Its been so long since I read it but the guy I think his name starts with an I? I loved him so much. (Sorry I would go look it up but I am on my phone)

Anyways great review, I am glad you liked it.
