Review: Friday Night Bites by Chloe Neill

Friday Night Bites (Chicagoland Vampires #2) by Chloe Neill
Synopsis (Goodreads):
Ten months after vampires revealed their existence to the mortals of Chicago, they're enjoying a celebrity status usually reserved for the Hollywood elite. But should people learn about the Raves - mass feeding parties where vampires round up humans like cattle - the citizens will start sharpening their stakes.

So now it's up to the new vampire Merit to reconnect with her upper class family and act as liaison between humans and bloodsuckers, and keep the more unsavory aspects of the vampire lifestyle out of the media. But someone doesn't want peace between them - someone with an ancient grudge.
My Thoughts: Oh, man, am I glad I picked this book up and got back into this series. This world is so FUN! It's dangerous and complex. It's sexy and full of twists and turns. I like it. I really, really like it.

Now, I'm not going to lie, Merit and Ethan confuse me. The whole thing where Ethan practically threw Merit into Morgan's arms at the end of book 1 was... weird. To me, it felt like he was prostituting her out for the good of the House. Merit is pretty strong-willed, though, and she takes things slow with Morgan, which I appreciated. I *like* how Ethan and Merit spark off one another (despite Ethan's occasional fantastic forays into douchebaggery) and I don't get nearly the same feeling off of Morgan and Merit. They're just... nice. Nothing special. I don't always like Ethan's actions, but I LOVE how passionate the two of them are around one another. It doesn't matter if she's introducing him to a drive-thru hamburger or challenging his actions -- the two of them have chemistry.

The world of the Chicagoland vamps is big and getting bigger. The secrets that Gabriel Keene hints at feel like they're going to shatter some of the beliefs that Merit has held. I don't know what they are but I'm excited to find out. The secret that Merit's been carrying about her vampire half has the ability to change things. Once again, I don't know how, but when something out of the ordinary happens in an urban fantasy, I end up enthralled. And Merit's vampire half? Is out of the ordinary.

Lots of happenings, some sexy kisses and one revenge-obsessed vampire left me giddy for more.

  2. I am going to try this one (I bought it on audible last week)---I wasn't a huge fan of the first book but I have heard that was really not the best one in the series. I did like the world and the security cowboy guy so I am willing to give it a whirl (actually all the secondary characters were awesome it was just M and E I had an issue with).

    1. Merit and Ethan definitely have their issues. I liked the first book and I think this book takes all the good and ratchets it up a notch.

    1. He was only in, like, two scenes. There's only so much you can say when he's not really in the book.

  6. I was already in $20 deep in Half Peuce Books when I came across most of this series. I had to walk away. It pained me & now you've gone and rubbed salt in the wound. Maybe it is still there. I shall go and hopefully give this world a new home...one on my TBR bookcase.
