Review: Never Seduce a Scot by Maya Banks

Never Seduce a Scot (The Montgomerys and Armstrongs #1) by Maya Banks
Synopsis (Goodreads):
Eveline Armstrong is fiercely loved and protected by her powerful clan, but outsiders consider her “touched.” Beautiful, fey, with a level, intent gaze, she doesn’t speak. No one, not even her family, knows that she cannot hear. Content with her life of seclusion, Eveline has taught herself to read lips and allows the outside world to view her as daft. But when an arranged marriage into a rival clan makes Graeme Montgomery her husband, Eveline accepts her dutyunprepared for the delights to come. Graeme is a rugged warrior with a voice so deep and powerful that his new bride can hear it, and hands and kisses so tender and skilled that he stirs her deepest passions.

Graeme is intrigued by the mysterious Eveline, whose silent lips are ripe with temptation and whose bright, intelligent eyes can see into his soul. As intimacy deepens, he learns her secret. But when clan rivalries and dark deeds threaten the wife he has only begun to cherish, the Scottish warrior will move heaven and earth to save the woman who has awakened his heart to the beautiful song of a rare and magical love.
My Thoughts: This book is everything I love in a Highlander book. A heroine who is extraordinary, a hero who rises above his prejudices, a dastardly plot, and a beautiful location. Maya Banks successfully reduced me to tears with this book MULTIPLE TIMES.

Eveline's struggle with both her deception and her intense need to show Graeme's clan that she's willing to try and fit it was absolutely heartbreaking. She wants nothing more than to be accepted for who and what she is. She sees her move to Montgomery lands as a chance to start new and she tries SO HARD to show the clan members that she's one of them. But when she's facing years and years of hatred, it's a slow road and she ends up suffering for it.

Graeme is probably one of my favorite characters ever. He accepted Eveline from the start and tried to make her welcome even though she was the daughter of his enemy. He believed the stories about her being daft, yet he also saw that there was more to her than met the eye. His biggest hurdle was Eveline's fear of telling him the truth. Once things come out into the open, he's even more impressed with her and he does everything in his power to make her feel welcome as his wife. I loved that he was so open minded. He was willing to set aside his prejudices about the Armstrongs and give her a safe harbor simply because he couldn't blame an innocent woman for the actions of the past that she had no part in.

Maya Banks' story telling abilities stun me every time. I adore her characters and all the trials and tribulations she puts them through. This is an outstanding start to what I believe will be another fantastic series.
