Review: Trapped by Kevin Hearne

Trapped (The Iron Druid Chronicles #5) by Kevin Hearne
Synopsis (Goodreads):
After twelve years of secret training, Atticus O’Sullivan is finally ready to bind his apprentice, Granuaile, to the earth and double the number of Druids in the world. But on the eve of the ritual, the world that thought he was dead abruptly discovers that he’s still alive, and they would much rather he return to the grave.

Having no other choice, Atticus, his trusted Irish wolfhound, Oberon, and Granuaile travel to the base of Mount Olympus, where the Roman god Bacchus is anxious to take his sworn revenge—but he’ll have to get in line behind an ancient vampire, a band of dark elves, and an old god of mischief, who all seem to have KILL THE DRUID at the top of their to-do lists.
My Thoughts: When things are at their worst, Atticus is at his best. You know, that pretty much sums up the entire series. I mean, the guy can have the most horrific injuries imaginable and have any number of bad guys trying to fillet him and he always manages to make things work to his advantage. It's not always pretty and it's not always painless but he gets it done. I like that in a Druid.

I really, really, REALLY love Granuaile. She's not willing to sit on the sidelines and let others fight her battles for her. She has a wicked throwing arm and she's just downright BADASS. That girl's on her game and she's a perfect foil for Atticus. I have to admit that I also loved how Atticus was completely willing to give Granuaile her due. She *was* better than he was at some things and he wasn't threatened by that. 2000+ year old Druids are so secure in themselves, aren't they?

I do enjoy how you never quite know who to trust in Atticus' world. The politics of the Gods and their subjects keeps things ever-changing and someone who *might* be a ally today could be an enemy tomorrow. It's all very murky and twisted and I love it!

THINGS HAPPEN in this book. Big things! Man, it's so much fun to play in this world!

PS: I <3 Oberon! Always!
