Synopsis (Goodreads):
Welcome to Spindle Cove, where the ladies with delicate constitutions come for the sea air, and men in their prime are... nowhere to be found. Or are they?

Spindle Cove is the destination of choice for certain types of well-bred young ladies: the painfully shy, young wives disenchanted with matrimony, and young girls too enchanted with the wrong men; it is a haven for those who live there.

Victor Bramwell, the new Earl of Rycliff, knows he doesn't belong here. So far as he can tell, there's nothing in this place but spinsters... and sheep. But he has no choice, he has orders to gather a militia. It's a simple mission, made complicated by the spirited, exquisite Susanna Finch—a woman who is determined to save her personal utopia from the invasion of Bram's makeshift army.

Susanna has no use for aggravating men; Bram has sworn off interfering women. The scene is set for an epic battle... but who can be named the winner when both have so much to lose?
My Thoughts: Man, Tessa Dare's books are kind of addictive, aren't they? And I'm not saying that because I'm binging my way through the entire series here, either. -long pause- Oh, fine. That's exactly why I'm saying it. I just... WANT MORE. I finish one book and there's this little persistent voice inside me that's all "You want to know what happens next." And I'm all "I do. I really do. But maybe I should ..." And that inner voice holds up its hand and says "Hush, hush. Just keep reading. The other books will understand."

I hope they do. It's going to be really awkward at Casa Rubidoux if the books start acting all jealous and stuff. I mean, REALLY awkward.

So. This book. It's full of these wonderfully vibrant characters that you quickly come to love. I'm not talking about just Susanna and Bram, either. All the secondary characters. All the women. All the men. EVEN THE LAMB! YOU WILL LOVE THE LAMB! Every single character has depth. I wanted to crawl around on the floor and pick up the little snippets of the various stories that are being hinted at. I WANT THEM. I want to see them ALL blossom and fall in love and have naughty touches in the great outdoors. What? If it's good enough for Bram and Susanna, it's good enough for everyone else.

I just... you know what? Go read this book. Just, go. And maybe you should pick up the rest of the series while you're at it because if you're anything like me, you're going want to have book 2 in hand as soon as you reach the final page of book 1.

  2. I think I grabbed the whole series to date on sale. You've added to all the good I've heard & making it hard not to shove ALL the other books aside & lose myself in a naughty jaunt back in time.
