Synopsis (Goodreads):
When a devilish lord and a bluestocking set off on the road to ruin...time is not on their side.

Minerva Highwood, one of Spindle Cove's confirmed spinsters, needs to be in Scotland.

Colin Sandhurst, Lord Payne, a rake of the first order, needs to be...anywhere but Spindle Cove.

These unlikely partners have one week to
  • fake an elopement
  • convince family and friends they're in "love"
  • outrun armed robbers
  • survive their worst nightmares
  • travel four hundred miles without killing each other
All while sharing a very small carriage by day and an even smaller bed by night.

What they don't have time for is their growing attraction. Much less wild passion. And heaven forbid they spend precious hours baring their hearts and souls.

Suddenly one week seems like exactly enough time to find a world of trouble. And maybe...just maybe...love.
My Thoughts: I broke one of my cardinal rules of series reading with this book - I read this book immediately after reading book 1, before writing the review. I BROKE ONE OF MY RULES! Why? Because this series grabbed me by the throat and wouldn't let go. I almost broke that same rule again and moved straight onto book 3 but I feared that my reviews would all end up being some variation of "*unintelligible grunts* *hand waving* Book good. *more grunting*" if I gave into the wicked and wanton desires of my heart temptation.

*ahem* So, here I am. Attempting to explain why I find Tessa Dare's books, her writing, her characters SO DARN ENJOYABLE. Simply put, it's all so vibrant (yes, I said that in my review for book 1 - this is why I have that RULE, you see) and emotional that I get caught up in all the crazy schemes and the beautiful scenery and the characters who seem like such boorish clods on the outside when we first meet them but who are really just men trying to deal with the curves life has thrown at them the best they can.

(That last sentence kinda makes me feel short of breath and a wee bit dizzy to read in one fell swoop. Maybe *I* should try to find Spindle Cove so that I can reap the benefits of healthy living and whatnot!)

And oh, this romance... it made me laugh at times because Colin is so over the top in the elaborate personas he invented for the two of them. You could practically feel the starch going out of Minerva's petticoats (or whatever they called them) the more time she spent with him. It was so FUN to watch.

Then we have the various personalities that make up the townsfolk. The glimpses and the hints at what's to come make me positively giddy to start book 3 right now. I seriously can't remember the last time I was so enamored of a series as a whole. I just want more. And more. And more.

I think that's my cue to start the next book!

  3. Oh, I need to read this! I just checked on Amazon and the Kindle version is waaaaay more expensive than the Mass Market ... might have to see if the library has it. I love fun characters AND books that make me grab for the sequel immediately after reading!
