Synopsis (Goodreads):
On the run from her former employer, Tess knows that she’s vulnerable on her own amongst the Elder Races. That’s why she decides to audition to become the human attendant of a powerful Vampyre of the Nightkind demesne. But while her position affords her the safety she seeks, her protector turns out to be more than she bargained for.

The right-hand man of the Nightkind King, Xavier del Torro is both terrifying and alluring. While his true nature frightens Tess, she can’t ignore the appeal of his innate sense of integrity and self-restraint. Thrown into Xavier’s world, Tess must quickly learn to navigate the dangers—both to her life and to her heart. But the biggest threat comes from her own past….
Thoughts on Night's Honor: It felt good to fall back into the world of the Elder Races. So good. I don't know that the vampires and their twisted politics will ever be my favorite (I have a thing for those Wyr. I can't help it. They're just so... beastly sometimes.), but I loved seeing yet another facet of this world.

Right. So. Xavier. Known for being ruthless and deadly, the care he takes in gaining Tess's trust and drawing her out endeared him to me. I don't want to say he's a sweetheart exactly, but he's not the heartless bloodsucker he originally came across as. Which isn't to say he doesn't deserve the reputation he has. He's willing to defend the things he believes in with everything inside him. And he's a pretty badass fighter. LOVE THAT!

Tess is in a bad place when we first meet her. She has nothing to lose when she presents herself to the vampires, but she's nowhere close to understanding the reality of being an attendant. Fortunately, Xavier takes the time to gentle her fears and Tess blossoms.

I LOVE the setup for the next book. While there are plenty of Wyr I'm still dying to read about (I can't wait to watch the rest of Dragos's sentinels fall!), I am SO looking forward to seeing how things play out in book 8.
