Synopsis (Goodreads):

What if Romeo wore hockey skates, and Juliet was raised on a farm next door?

As a life-long Vermonter, there are three beliefs I’ve always held true:
1. Our family farm is everything
2. Hockey is a close second
3. The Todds next door are our sworn enemies

But this season will test everything I stand for.

I have an illicit side job that could cost me my hockey scholarship. And now Maggie Todd knows my secret. She’s waiting for the right moment to use it against me. But every time I face off against her, I learn things I shouldn’t want to know. Like how deeply her competitive streak runs, and how sexy that is. And how easy it is to make her blush… everywhere.

An Adler and a Todd cannot be lovers. Breaking that rule is like pulling a pin on a grenade--everything in my life could blow up. Can we surrender to these feelings… or will our families’ feud make us its next casualty?

Thoughts on Blindsided: Ahh. Maggie and Tate. The Todds and the Adlers. Families with neighboring farms and a long-standing feud. Feud may containing fist-fighting seniors, a slam-dunk throw at the dunk tank, a whole lot of secrets, and a whole lot of scowling.

Maggie and Tate ABSOLUTELY do not intend to end this feud. In fact, their first steamy encounter was supposed to be a one and done. Except...they couldn't seem to stay away from one another. Which is fine. I'm sure nobody in their respective families are going to notice them sneaking around. Probably. Really. It'll be fine.

To make things even more complicated, Maggie and her sister know about Tate's not-quite-approved-by-the-school side job and he's sort of on pins and needles about them revealing it. Yeah, these two have a messy, complex thing going on. But it'll be fine. I'm sure.

On the downside, things have to get worse for these two before they can get better. But once things come to a head, secrets are uncovered, lines are drawn, and there's a chance things might work out if only these two families could get out of their own way. *thumbs up*

Synopsis (Goodreads):

Together they can solve any case.
But when it comes to unlocking her heart, he doesn’t have a clue…

Violet Locke has always been great with puzzles. Her intellect and eye for detail let her solve just about any problem. But when it comes to people, she often finds herself without a clue. When a hunky alien moves in downstairs and immediately falls for her, will she finally learn to listen to her heart instead of her head?

Hannibal and his brothers are doing their best to assimilate to their new lives on Earth. Desperate to find mates among human women, they know their adventure will be cut short if they fail. Earth customs can be super confusing, but one thing Hannibal knows for sure is that curvy, brilliant Violet Locke is destined to be his mate. All he wants is to use his superhuman strength and powers to sweep her off her feet.

When Vi’s latest project turns into a race against time to find a neighbor’s missing dog, the two will have to work together to track it down. Though they might be close to finding the kidnapped pooch, Hannibal is afraid Vi will fail to discover that what has truly been missing from her life is love.

Thoughts on Hannibal: Freshly minted aliens on earth! And by that I mean we have hunky aliens in new bodies who learned all their social cues from TV shows and old movies. Which sounds like it could be a recipe for disaster, but Hannibal and his brothers did okay. Possibly because the house they're moving into is full of people who are already a little off-beat. Meaning the aliens' social issues aren't all that much of a problem.

Which brings us around to Violet. She's quirky. In a fun way, mind you. She's trying to figure out a small business to open (as part of the parameters of an inheritance) and she's...not really loving the idea. Of a small business. Where she might have to interact with people. But she's planning it anyway. Hannibal is hunky, listens when she talks, and doesn't mind helping her with things others might complain about. Which Violet kinda likes.

On Hannibal's end, he pretty much knows Violet's the one for him as soon as they meet. Finding your fated mate is everything for his people, so he's all in at first glance. He just has to figure out how to convey that to violet without making a mess of things.

A rash of missing doggos, a few Scooby-Doo references, one socially awkward woman, family, friends, and two individuals who figure things out at exactly the right time. *thumbs up*
Synopsis (Goodreads):

The hottest player on the Moo U hockey team hangs a flyer on the bulletin board, and I am spellbound:

Rent a boyfriend for the holiday. For $25, I will be your Thanksgiving date. I will talk hockey with your dad. I will bring your mother flowers. I will be polite, and wear a nicely ironed shirt…

Now everyone knows it’s a bad idea to introduce your long-time crush to your messed-up family. But I really do need a date for Thanksgiving, even if I’m not willing to say why. So I tear his phone number off of that flyer… and accidentally entangle our star defenseman in a ruse that neither of us can easily unwind.

Because Weston's family is even nuttier than mine. He needs a date, too, for the most uncomfortable holiday engagement party ever thrown.

There will be hors d'oeuvre. There will be faked PDA. And there will be pro-level awkwardness…

Thoughts on Boyfriend: Okay. I'm heading onto the Moo U campus for some hockey and dating shenanigans. I AM READY.

First up, Abbi and Weston. They both have complicated family things going on. That said, their family issues are on opposite ends of the issue spectrum, but they both have family adjacent stumbling blocks that are causing problems for them. Also to be said, those weird family issues brought the two of them together in a roundabout way. So, there's that.

As it turns out, Weston's flyer to be someone's date for Thanksgiving is exactly what Abbi needs. He can help her avoid her step-step brother and she gets to spend time with the guy she's been crushing on for a while. On Weston's end, he gets delicious food and he gets to spend time with the hot waitress from his favorite wings restaurant. The step-step was a bit of a complication he hadn't expected, but the big guy is used to reading the room and reacting as needed, so it's not a huge deal.

Seeing as how Weston can't get Abbi out of his head, having her come to his family's Christmas festivities (complete with engagement party and REALLY awkward family time) is another win/win. And, as it turns out, spending time with Abbi only make Weston want her more. (Did I mention complicated family dynamics? Because WOW.)

Fake dating, fake sexy times, real sexy times, wings, hockey players, and ...they know that fake dating only works if they don't catch feelings for one another, right? Yeah. Yeeeaaaaah. I must say, I liked this one a lot!
Synopsis (Goodreads):

Jilted. Living in a glorified closet. The world’s worst bar waitress. I just need to keep a roof over my head and make tuition payments until I can finish graduate school. Then my real life will start. But right now, long nights at the Speakeasy have me burning the candle at both ends and the wax melting all over my fingers.

When a bar manager offers me a job taking care of his adorable five-year-old daughter, it seems like the perfect solution. I get a quiet place to study. Matteo gets a reliable sitter.

There should be no complications. Except that I like my new boss a little too much. His gorgeous dark eyes humble me, and the long talks we share fill me up inside. I can’t possibly fall for him.

But the undeniable pull between us leads to a scorching kiss I can’t ignore or forget, and suddenly I’ve fallen for them both, father and daughter.

And now three hearts are at stake.

Thoughts on Safeguard: Oh, ho! Matteo and his ADORABLE daughter are up and YES! I think I've been waiting for Matteo to find his special someone since we first met him. Melanie might have been a little hesitant about starting anything with him, but she couldn't resist his smolder and longing looks.

But before that, let's look at why Melanie had to wrap her head around things before she could be comfortable starting a relationship with him. First off, Matteo was her boss at the bar. Which is workable because the Speakeasy has several people who are couples working there. Then she took him up on his offer to watch his daughter, which kind of made him her boss again. Kind of. Plus, there's Lauren. Lauren's adorable and smart and Melanie didn't want to mess anything up with her if things went sour with Matteo.

On Matteo's end, finding someone he trusted with his daughter was huge. Meaning, he didn't want to mess that up if things took a turn. But the more time he spent with Melanie and every time he saw how wonderful she was with his kiddo just made him like her more. Soon they were both deciding that mayyyybe it would be okay to progress things to the next level. AND THINGS HAPPENED.

A feisty kiddo, a single dad who knows a good thing when he sees it, and a lady who likes the whole father/daughter package. GOOD STUFF.
Synopsis (Goodreads):

Randall Dickson is coping. Sort of. An upcoming medical eval, one that could end his military career, has him stressed and making bad choices. So when a concerned friend issues a strongly-worded “invitation” to Vermont, R.D. is all in for a change of scenery, a temporary job as a bartender, and the opportunity to shake himself out of his self-destructive routine.

Then he sets eyes on his seriously sexy new co-worker…

Lily Reynolds, an artist by day, Speakeasy’s favorite bartender at night, works hard to stay positive, unlike her surly new coworker. He may be a treat to look at, but that grumpy attitude and terse manner are not her type. So when Lily finds herself in desperate need of someone to share expenses, she convinces R.D. to rent her vacant room. There’s no way she’ll find herself falling for him.

She’d like to find the secret admirer who’s leaving her secret love notes around the bar, though. But he won’t reveal himself...

Thoughts on Stargazer: Artsy outgoing Lily and doesn't-do-small-talk R.D are up and...heh. Opposites attract, amirite? Especially when one is a really good guy who is more than willing to show his new roomie how a lady should be treated.

Now to back up a little. Lily has some issues stemming from her mother's death that having her make a few bad choices when it comes to significant others. Being alone terrifies her, so sometimes she latches onto the most convenient option and that convenience doesn't always translate into them being a good guy. That said, R.D. IS a good guy. He's focused and competent, but he has a life he's working on getting back to. A life away from Colebury. Which means he thinks he's not the best choice for Lily since he's not planning on sticking around.

Speaking of which, the way he handles his eventual departure is not cool. Sure, he tries to make things as easy as possible for Lily in terms of her security and her business, but...not cool, R.D. Not cool, at all. Sure, things work out in the end, but ouch.

The Speakeasy crew, a sweet pupper, an awful ex, a guy trying to recalibrate his life, and a lady who knows a good thing when she sees it. Even if he is a little grumpy.
Synopsis (Goodreads):

Scottie Ramone’s new bakery is up and running, but she’s in desperate need of an assistant. Jack Lucas, a stranger with a troubled past, has moved to town. He also happens to bake cakes that are nothing short of sublime. His qualifications make him the perfect assistant, but Dalton Braddock, the town’s ranger and Scottie’s longtime crush, has advised against it. So, of course, she hires the man but with plenty of trepidation.

In the meantime, Scottie has another problem to grapple with. Someone has killed the gingerbread man the town mayor hired for the annual Ripple Creek Holiday Fair. Ranger Braddock is busy up at the Miramont Resort, so Scottie is on the case. As she goes through her list of possible suspects, she finds a name that causes her plenty of angst. It’s her new assistant, Jack. Has Scottie just hired a cold-blooded killer to bake cupcakes?

Thoughts on Dead Gingerbread Man Walking: Things are moving forward on Scottie's dreams. Her bakery is baking up delicious goodies and she's finding her groove again. BUT...she really needs an assistant and everyone who's been applying is not quite right.

Then someone who is right shows up and Scottie's initially a little wary about hiring him since he's an ex-con. Except...he makes REALLY good cakes. Oh, and he's possibly connected to the recent murder in town. Which, you know, isn't ideal.

With Dalton tied up at his fiancée's ski resort (frankly, the big guy can do SO MUCH better than her, but that's probably another story for another day), it's up to Scottie to figure out who committed the crime so she can get back to baking. Hopefully with her very qualified new hire in the kitchen beside her and not behind bars. I must admit I'm really enjoying my time here in Ripple Creek!
Synopsis (Goodreads):

With visions of chocolate dipped peanut butter fingers, sour cream jumbles and fruity hand pies, Scottie Ramone’s vintage bakery dream is well on its way to becoming reality. The contractor and his team are hard at work transforming the space. Her shopfront may not be open quite yet, but Scottie is already serving up delicious treats in Ripple Creek. Her buttery shortbread biscuits quickly become a favorite in Roxi’s market.

Summer has come and gone leaving a spectacular fall in its wake. When the Nature Quest Photography Club comes to town, Scottie’s new friend, Cade Rafferty, invites her to join him for a photography class on Blue Jay Ridge. The club is an interesting mix of photographers, both professional and amateur. It’s immediately apparent that there’s no shortage of secrets between the club members. When one of the prominent photographers plunges to his death, suspicions are raised. Was it an unfortunate accident or something more sinister?

Dalton Braddock, Ripple Creek Ranger and Scottie’s longtime crush is called to the scene. Before long, Scottie finds herself deep in her third murder case right alongside the man who still, after all these years, makes her knees quake like jelly.

Thoughts on Better Off Shortbread: We're back in Ripple Creek with Scottie and her friends (some of which are kinda-rivals with one another, but that's another story for another time) and there's a dead body for her to play amateur sleuth with. Which is EXACTLY what I'm here for.

So. A little case of death hits when a photography club rolls into town. Scottie- being her curious, helpful self -happens to be the one who finds the body. And while it *might* have been an accident, Scottie's sleuthy intuition says the odds are against that. While Dalton (hunky, hunky Dalton) follows clues in his official capacity, Scottie ferrets out some of the secrets the other photography club members might be hiding.

Beyond the mystery of the death, Scottie's also dealing with her new bakery renovations coming along nicely, gossip about Dalton and his fiancé, a little rivalry between Dalton and Cade (although she denies there's anything there of the sort), baking up scrumptious treats to sell at the local market, and a moment or two with the guy she can't stop thinking about. (Yes, I have a favorite between the two men and it's very much the hunky Ranger.)

A little snooping, a little danger, and a lady who's finding her feet again after upending her life. I like.
Synopsis (Goodreads):

She escaped Earth and ran across galaxies…into his arms.

Hanne won’t return to Earth. Ever. No matter that the rest of the human delegation is flying back from Rendu and she is one of the few humans to remain on this strange, frozen planet. What awaits her back home is way worse than any ice storm…or the brooding alien general she can’t stop thinking about.

Lhett knows he’s far from being anyone’s idea of a happy ending. His scars are enough to send people running, and his moods scare away the rest. But he can at least make sure that the stubborn human scientist doesn’t die on his watch, even if she drives him crazy with her visits to the planet’s steamiest appliance store.

When the heat between them rises to battle even the brutally cold nights, Hanne and Lhett discover that some scars don’t show up on skin. And opening old wounds is more painful than they ever imagined. Can love between a human woman and a hulking alien male beat the odds?

Thoughts on Cold Seduction: It's Lhett's turn to catch some feels and this is one dude who DOES NOT know what to do with feelings. At all. Like, he's a frown machine set to perpetual grump and he doesn't even see that about himself. Until, you know, he does.

That said, Lhett does have a good reason for his grumpiness. His time with Hanne was cut short and then she didn't give any indication she might be planning on staying behind when the human delegation heads back to earth. So, yeah. Lhett's a big tangle of unwanted emotions and things DO NOT get better when Hanne ends up surprising everyone by staying.

Which brings us around to Hanne and her decisions. Hanne didn't know if she'd have the courage to go through with staying on Rendu until it actually happened. So she didn't say anything which caused a few people to be a little sad. Then she did the unthinkable (to her, at least) and decided to live her life the way she wanted to. Which meant being independent and NOT returning to earth. She doesn't want to lean too heavily on her friends or Lhett because she's terrified she'll get trapped in the same loop she'd been in on earth - forced to do things she didn't want to do because she saw no way out.

It takes time, a lot of soul-baring, a dangerous trip that nearly kills Hanne and makes both of them realize they didn't want to be parted from the other, and both Hanne and Lhett figuring out they don't have to do things on their own before these two can be together. Yeah, there's a little baggage here on both ends and that baggage needs to be dealt with before Hanne and Lhett can settle into their happily ever after.
Synopsis (Goodreads):

He doesn’t trust women. She only trusts dogs. Why can’t they keep their paws off each other?

Darren Reade builds stone walls in Vermont--and around his heart. Women don’t stick around, so it’s better to put up No Trespassing signs and focus on raising his adopted son. Darren is willing to do whatever it takes to help the boy cope with his mother’s death. But doing it alone is a challenge.

Grace Hollings indulges her love of old-school jazz by singing nights at the Speakeasy Taproom, and spends her days training service dogs, connecting small humans with smart pooches. Of course she’d planned to be married already, but a failed engagement has taught her that dogs make better company than men.

One evening, Grace and Darren don’t exchange names, but they do engage in a single night neither of them will forget. Is once all there is? Or can they train their hearts to trust what they’ve built under the starlight?

Thoughts on Starlight: It's time for sultry Grace to find her man. The waitress/singer has a gift for entertaining the Speakeasy folks AND for training service dogs to help kids. She also never expects the guy she spent a sizzling night with to show up at her training facility to do a little work on the place. To be fair, their paths likely would have crossed even if she didn't need his masonry skills given his son's anxiety issues.

Which is to say, it's almost like these two were meant to meet and make a connection.

As for Darren, he's an amazing dad who's trying his hardest to help his son deal with a very traumatic event. His night with Grace was beyond anything he was expecting and meeting up with her again only made the sparks between them grow. Watching his son blossom with Grace's help (and the pup's help!) is everything he wanted. So when things unravel (in the most terrible way), he has a really hard time dealing with it.

By the by, Grace's ex fiancé is TERRIBLE. Just the worst. Gross.

Big doggo energy, a kiddo who is working on finding his balance, a lady who can sing, and a man who's very good with his hands. Found family love! I'm in!
Synopsis (Goodreads):

It’s my last night in New York. And the woman of my dreams is three feet away, expertly twirling a bottle of vodka behind the bar and making the perfect pour. I’ve never seen anyone as beautiful as Melody, with her enigmatic eyes and a gorgeous smile. All I have to do is introduce myself. And then...

I choke. And my chance for something--anything--with her is gone.

Months later, I think I’m dreaming when I see her doing bartender tricks here in Vermont. Now all I can think about is having those long, beautiful, fingers performing their magic on my body.

But I’m pretty sure she’s hiding something. It’s painfully obvious she’s keeping me at arm’s length just when I need to hold her close. She brings out my protective instincts, but I’ve got problems of my own. If I’m not careful, I’ll destroy everything I’m trying to build.

Losing her again might break me this time, because now I can’t imagine life without the light of my Firefly.

Thoughts on Firefly: A flashy, crowd-pleasing bartender relocating from New York and the local who hasn't forgotten their brief encounter. It wasn't even a sex-ay encounter. Just an encounter at the bar Melody worked at. Trevor liked her, but didn't want to start something when he was on the verge of moving back to Vermont so they became a missed connection.

Except circumstances have Melody unexpectedly ending up at Speakeasy and (potentially) that missed connection can turn into something more substantial.

On Melody's end, she might possibly have a few trust issues. Given her mother's stellar parenting skills, that's not surprising. Regardless of the reason why, Melody's guarded. Trevor's disappearance in New York after she opened up to him, has her a little wary of the big guy when he shows up. But Trevor is patient and dogged and eventually these two are able to meet halfway. I mean, it takes time and there's baggage to deal with, but they get there.

A city gal in the country, a small-town guy who likes what he sees, a little danger, family dynamics of the dysfunctional variety, friends, steam, and flash. I must say, I'm enjoying my time in Colebury very much.
Synopsis (Goodreads):

When the prize is love, sometimes you get stung. But if you’re lucky, you just might hit the sweet spot…

Juliana Burton needs a medal at Speakeasy's beer festival to push her brand-new brewery into the spotlight. She thinks she knows how to do it, too--with a beer made exclusively from Vermont hops, barley and the best honey in the state. Too bad the only thing standing in her way is a six feet tall, smokin’ sexy, and her secret high school crush.

After a very public disaster in Boston, Riggs Lyon is home with his teenage son in tow. Riggs is taking over the family beekeeping business with an eye to offload it and start life over somewhere where "Lyin' Lyon" isn't a joke. Selling honey to Juliana doesn't make business sense. She can't afford the high prices Lyon honey fetches in specialty shops and farmer's markets. But somehow, he’s having trouble saying no to anything she asks for, whether it’s in the hive or in the bedroom.

Thoughts on Wildflower: Oh, hey. We have a lady trying to establish her new brewery who is forced (by circumstances and pride) to work with her high school crush and who gets a leeeeeetle flustered when said crush is around and a man trying to rebuild himself after his ex blew his (and his son's) world apart. THINGS ARE COMPLICATED.

Just to complicate their potential relationship even more, their families have a history. As it turns out, that history needs to be smoothed over before Juliana and Riggs can be more than just secret bed buddies. Not that it's a secret-secret, really. Because this is a small town and people notice things.

Small town aside, these two have sparks. Not necessarily of the good type at first either. I mean, they were good on Juliana's side, for the most part, but she stuck her foot in her mouth in one of their first recent encounters and Riggs had to work his head around that. Which put the big guy in a mood for a while. Plus, with his goal being to get (eventually) clear out of town and start over again where no one knows what his ex did...well, you might see how that could be a complication.

Bees, a group of ladies determined to make their mark on the brewing world, a grumpy beekeeper, and a lot of baggage to unpack. Good stuff!
Synopsis (Goodreads):

As the son of a war god, Roux Pyroesis has suffered unending pain—he’s caused it, too, dispatching his foes with alarming ease. Now he’s tasked with cutting out the heart of a powerful queen who rules an ancient prison realm inhabited by the most vicious immortal females in existence.

Blythe the Undoing is a decorated harpy warrior determined to annihilate Roux, the invader who killed her beloved consort. Nothing will stop her. Even if she must trap herself for eternity by sneaking into the brutal realm and taking the crown, pitting herself against the merciless male she’s sworn to despise.

Having never known desire, Roux is ill prepared for the stunning beauty who challenges him at every turn. For the survival of his army, duty comes first. Always. But what happens when the flames of Blythe’s hatred burn out and she craves him, too…but only one of them can live?

Thoughts on The Phantom: We're back with the Astra Planeta warriors and the harpy women who challenge them. And by challenge, I mean the collective harpy ladies taunt, tease, and otherwise do their best to make the warriors regret invading Harpina. Until, you know, the two groups are working together to thwart an enemy and all that.

So. Roux and Blythe. These two didn't get off on the best foot seeing as how Roux beheaded Blythe's consort in the heat of battle. Things get even more complicated when Blythe possesses Roux (to save herself and her kiddo) and gets to spend some time in his head. THEN things get even MORE complicated when Blythe's not-so-great daddio tosses her into a realm as bait for Roux.

Yeah, family dynamics are a mess for these folks. Between Blythe's father's actions and Roux's father's version of childrearing both of them have a lot to work through. But they do it. They snark and sass and go all stone cold sometimes, but these two get where they need to be.

A dangerous realm, a whole bunch of women who hadn't seen a man in a looooonnnnng time, a little case or two of betrayal, some fighting, some steamy kisses, a little teasing (okay, A LOT of teasing), and another wild challenge that needs to be won. Roux and Blythe. MAN, I like these two together.
Synopsis (Goodreads):

In this tenth and final installment of The Black Hat Bureau series, Rue races the clock to find her little moth girl before it’s too late. As much as she wants to believe that Clay will protect Colby, he isn’t himself when he’s under the director’s thrall. And the director would toss a loinnir back like a shot of pure magic if he got his hands on her.

As if Rue doesn’t already have enough heaped on her plate, Luca is spreading her poison west in a twisted game of take-out roulette. Now Rue must decide if saving one life is worth sacrificing the dozens of innocents Luca will kill if Rue doesn’t make stopping her the top priority.

As the director, Rue ought to put her agents’ lives and the Bureau’s purpose above her own, but Colby is her child and—right or wrong—Rue would burn down the world to save her.

Thoughts on Gray Dawn: I have a notoriously hard time finishing up series I adore because I really REALLY don't want to end my time with characters I've come to like more than a little. So when I say this ending is both bittersweet and utterly glorious, keep that in mind. (But mostly hold the "utterly glorious" part up to examine.)

RUE AND ASA AND COLBY AND CLAY AND OMG I'M SAD TO SAY GOODBYE BUT BOY DID YOU GUYS GO OUT WITH A BANG. Not a literally bang, thankfully, but all the little threads got tied off and I AM DEEPLY PLEASED.

When last we visited with the crew, Clay had been betrayed by the magic that animates him, Colby was unintentionally moth-napped, Aedan is playing heir to a terrible queen, Rue and Asa (and the rest of the Bureau) are trying to get ahead of the poisoner, and...I don't even know. There's a lot. I mean, Rue is not only dealing with all this, but also a lot of deep-rooted familial things that are MESSED UP.

Now she has to figure out how to save Colby (because there's no way she's letting her little girl deal with things on her own), bring Clay back to himself, stop the poisoner before they reveal the existence of paranormals to humans, and keep her wicked grandmother from taking out her upsets with Rue on Aedan.

So much happens and it's so good and BITTERSWEET, my friends. My heart eyes are strong and I'm so very very happy with how things turned out for all of them.
Synopsis (Goodreads):

" I should have warned you of how illogical it is to fall in love with a Kyron."

An emissary to the Restitution, V’Alen does not interfere in the war between the humans and High Tasqals.

But when the Tasqal’s minions attack the base and the voice of one female reaches his auditory sensors, he answers her call for assistance.

[Scan: Female. Designated “Alaina”.]

A human female who swears him to secrecy the moment he rescues her.

Alaina is completely illogical. She is the definition of a faulty being…but when she proposes a contract he cannot refuse, V’Alen takes the bait.

The deal? A glimpse of humanity in exchange for his silence.

[Scan. Odds 95/5]

There is a 95% chance nothing will occur that will change his existence.

…But for the universe, 5% is more than enough.

Thoughts on V'Alen: We're back with the Restitution and the more machine than man Kyron emissary, V'Alen. He has rigid rules to live by (for reasons!) and he absolutely doesn't expect any human to captivate him the way Alaina does.

The downside? Alaina is dealing with more than just being abducted. She's dying and wants her time to be worth something to the people she's unexpectedly found herself with. Which means she's hiding her illness and doing everything she can to help turn the tide against the Tasqals. Still, she's one woman against a terrible enemy, but the lady DOES NOT give up easily. Or ever, really.

Which intrigues V'Alen. She's faulty, weak, and dying by inches, but she just keeps on pushing forward. When the two of them head off on a mission to keep a powerful relic safe, they start to learn more and more about one another. And (yeah, you guessed it) THINGS HAPPEN.

THINGS. V'Alen has skills no regular man has and Alaina isn't complaining IN THE LEAST.

A whole lot of danger, a powerful being who cages himself with rules to protect those around him, a woman who wants to make a difference, and several steamy encounters. *thumbs up*
Synopsis (Goodreads):

Zoologist Mika Yadama has her hands full exploring a new alien world - the only problem is that the planet itself keeps trying to kill her. And the one male assigned to be her guide seems to be keeping his distance.

Kol ad Naals wants nothing more than to give in to temptation and drag Mika off to his bed, yet she’s leaving in six weeks. He’s lost enough people already, and he won’t allow himself to care for the human.

That would be easier if she didn’t put herself in constant danger - rescuing her from certain death ties them together whether he likes it or not.

But the environment and the lethal alien species aren’t the only threats to their relationship, and as a series of mysterious break-ins occurs in the capital, Kol’s duty to his queen and his nation must come first. If only it didn’t mean letting go of the only woman he ever wanted to keep.

Thoughts on Cold Temptation: The next ad Naals brother is up and he's just as confused about his feelings as Taron was. To make things even more complicated, Mika is NOT good at deciphering social cues of the human variety, which means she's equally bad (if not worse) at deciphering alien ones. She also doesn't want to come across as a level five clinger and stick around where she's not wanted.

What I'm trying to say is these two have some THINGS going on. They're both a little tangled up and I AM HERE FOR IT.

So. Kol isn't interested in getting attached only to have Mika leave when the humans head back to earth. So he pushes her away and tries to keep his distance. Except he's already a little smitten and he keeps putting himself back in her orbit. Which confuses Mika. Because Kol is confusing. And confused. I mean, the guy wants Mika, but he doesn't want to want Mika.

On Mika's end, she (as previously mentioned) isn't good at deciphering social cues. Which means she questions whether she read too much into Kol's attention when he pulls away. Which then leads to her pulling away. Let's juts say there's a lot of pushing and pulling.

Some alone time in an icy cavern, a lady who makes quick friends with anything of the animal persuasion, some danger, a little betrayal, and two people who generate some heat when things get going. *thumbs up*
Synopsis (Goodreads):

She’s a political princess and media darling...

There’s no such thing as bad publicity. Yeah, right. Tell that to the PR firm that handles Tracy’s very prominent political family. Pushed by scandal from Boston to the boondocks, now she’s on the other side of the serving tray, dishing up beer and burgers, hoping no one recognizes her. But there’s something very familiar--and maddeningly tempting--about the new caterer at Speakeasy.

He’s a cranky recluse...

Colton was the star of the celebrity chef circuit until he wasn’t anymore. Now he lives in a remote country cabin and spends his time alone, far from the spotlight and liking it that way. Until the gorgeous new waitress at Speakeasy starts poking at his resolve and suddenly all he wants is to see her let down her hair. And spread it all over his pillow. She’s got secrets he knows he won’t like, but he can’t stay away from her.

She lives in the spotlight, and he hates attention. When her public life collides with his private one, can their love write a fairy-tale ending after all?

Thoughts on Sideways: A lady from a family that basically lives its life in the spotlight and a guy who wants nothing to do with fame or the pressure that comes along with it. On paper, Tracy and Colton are as different as different can be. YET THEY WORK.

That said, it wasn't an easy road to Happily Ever After. Colton had retreated to Vermont after an incident at one of this restaurants. He's withdrawn and hurting and he's not interested in stepping into a kitchen again. Which, for a famous chef, says a lot. While he isn't smitten with Tracy immediately (in fact, he's kind of a jerk to her in their first meeting), there is something about her that draws him. And the more time he spends with her, the more he grows to like her.

On Tracy's end, she's hiding out in Vermont for different reasons than Colton, but she's still trying to keep a low profile. Waitressing isn't her strength, but she's great with people and soon even grumpy Colton has stopped giving her the stink eye. In fact, soon he's giving her hot looks and throwing off a little smolder and she's a-okay with that.

A chef finding his passion for cooking again, a lady who has a gift for connecting people, a little steam, a lie or two (for Tracy's safety), and more than a few sparks. *thumbs up*
Synopsis (Goodreads):

Who knew falling in love with my fake girlfriend could feel so real?

I don’t have time for distractions, which is a huge problem since my new next door neighbor Rosalie Wentworth is very distracting. She’s kind, beautiful, and makes me laugh like no woman ever has before.

Unfortunately, the two of us add up to one really sad country song—I’m nursing a bruised ego following a broken engagement and she’s suffering through a messy divorce—so I vow to set my attraction aside and focus on being her friend instead.

That’s easier said than done, however, since her mom is convinced Rosalie and I are perfect for each other. When one of her matchmaking schemes goes a step too far, Rosalie and I hatch a plan of our own: pretend to date for a couple of months to get her mom off our backs.

It’s foolproof, really.

Only, what started as a fake relationship is starting to feel very real, and now I don’t know if I can go back to the way things were before. Because it turns out if home is where the heart is, then Rosalie is mine.

Thoughts on Homecoming: A well-meaning mama pushing two people together who are...possibly not ready to be together, but have to pretend just to get some breathing room could have gone either way with me. Like, I get Rosalie's mom wanting her to be happy and thinking she has all the answers by pushing her and Preston together, but WHEW some of the scenarios she cooked up were SUPER awkward.

SUPER AWKWARD.

That said, Rosalie and Preston might have started as a fake couple, but soon they caught feelings and things took a turn. In a good way. Fortunately for everyone involved, the awkwardness leveled out and soon the two were sharing meals and going on dates.

That's the plus side. The not-so-good side? Rosalie's almost-ex husband (so awful) and most of Preston's family (ALSO AWFUL!). Between the dragged out divorce proceedings and the whole situation with Preston's family being more supportive of his ex-fiancé and brother than of his feelings about said situation, well...let's just say almost everyone was awful and toxic and move along.

Small town feels, fake dating, figuring things out, an amazing career opportunity at Speakeasy, and two people who make things work. *thumbs up*
Synopsis (Goodreads):

She needs a fresh start. He wants a second chance…

My new job as a chef in a small town was supposed to be my ticket to peace and quiet. I didn’t expect to run into the former hockey star who gave me the hottest nights of my life. And, oops, he’s sort-of my new boss. So much for keeping my past where it belongs.

Ty still thinks I’m the fun party girl. He has no idea how much things have changed. One thing that hasn’t changed: the spark between us. It’s hotter than the blowtorch I use on my crème brûlée.

I’m already keeping secrets, so what’s one more? Our tryst is forbidden, it’s fun, and it gets complicated as fast as you can say “check, please.” I didn’t expect to have a future with Ty. And I definitely didn’t expect to have a baby with him.

Some falls are harder than others. But it depends on who’s there to catch you...

Thoughts on Heartwood: Our man Ty, who keeps Speakeasy running smoothly, is up and his special someone is the one who got away. Sort of. I mean, Ty and Belle had a moment when they were in college and he's never forgotten her, but it wasn't serious-serious at the time. Now, though? IT'S ON!

That said, Belle isn't the same fast-trackin' party girl she was in college. Mostly because her high-octane energy came with a price and she's working her way through figuring out this new normal for her. To be honest, the lady is tough on herself. Very tough. She sees the crash she experienced as a failure on her part and she's hesitant about giving herself room to have fun and live again. On the other hand, her need to be busy and keep moving works perfectly in her new role at Speakeasy and she's settling into that nicely. It's more of a mental recalibration to realize this is something that makes her happy and she is allowed to change and grow into this new her.

On Ty's end, he's pretty okay with crossing paths with Belle again. He likes her for her and he's willing to roll with the changes she's gone through since they knew each other before.

Awkward family dynamics (on Ty's end), supportive family dynamics (on Belle's end), steamy kisses, a bench that helps them connect, and two people figuring things out as best they can. *thumbs up*
There's also literal darkness as the Hauntlands grow rapidly, turning the once sunny and fun wild places into dim, spooky ruins inhabited only by a few ghost Folk and zombie cows.

Yep, things are looking dark as Aoide the Lutist, her bandmates, and the rest of the Folk face threats that could destroy their world and all who live there.

On Earth and in Faerie, the former members of the Rioting Zebras, the teen garage band that became global superstars with a little “borrowed” magic, each follow a different path. Jason, Erin, Mitch, and Dred confront personal mysteries and supernatural danger as they approach the end of the adventure they began long ago, when they first discovered magic, and it changed their lives forever.

Thoughts on Fairy Queen: It's been a while since I last dipped my toes n Faerie and spent time with Erin. Jason, and the crew (both human and otherwise), so it was a TRIP to head back in and get immersed in the balloon animals and tiny monsters and BAG BAD FAIRY QUEENS WHO ARE NOT VERY GOOD RULERS AT ALL DESPITE HOW OFTEN THEY SCREAM ABOUT HOW GREAT THEY ARE TO EVERYONE.

So. Yeah. Erin and Jason. Erin found out the truth about her heritage and faked her own death on Earth (technically she didn't fake it, but it got faked all the same) and is trying to find herself in Faerie. Except things are a little dark in faerie right now and it turns out Erin can't walk away when there's something she can do. It's actually pretty noble and all that and she steps into the role she needs to step into with good intentions, but she was very much manipulated into that position and NOT COOL, MAN. Not cool at all.

On the plus side, her cat is pretty awesome and philosophical and I dig that.

As for Jason, he's busy back on Earth trying to keep his family safe, failing in that, ending up in Faerie, meeting up with the original owners of the faerie instruments he stole, and...you know what? The guy had a lot going on. Throw in a power-hungry queen and a fae-crushing war and, well, THINGS HAPPEN.

A lot of punny word play, a not-so-fun war, rebel contingents, scheming elders, magic, mayhem, music, and a magnificently philosophical cat. Overall, it's a solid ending to a fun series.
Synopsis (Goodreads):

When twelve-year-old Maddie hatches a scheme for a secret sleepover with her two best friends, she ends up waking up to a nightmare. She’s alone—left behind in a town that has been mysteriously evacuated and abandoned.

With no one to rely on, no power, and no working phone lines or internet access, Maddie slowly learns to survive on her own. Her only companions are a Rottweiler named George and all the books she can read. After a rough start, Maddie learns to trust her own ingenuity and invents clever ways to survive in a place that has been deserted and forgotten.

As months pass, she escapes natural disasters, looters, and wild animals. But Maddie’s most formidable enemy is the crushing loneliness she faces every day. Can Maddie’s stubborn will to survive carry her through the most frightening experience of her life?

Thoughts on Alone: I picked up this book because my niece (who's 9) had read it, really liked it, and wanted me to read it. Not a problem, boo. Mostly. To be blunt, I'm normally not a huge fan of books written in verse, but I adore my niece and liked that she wanted to share something she enjoyed with me so I was willing to give it a go.

GUESS WHAT? Verse worked HARD for this book. I can honestly say I don't think it would have had nearly the impact it had if it had been written in a more traditional format (and by that I mean with paragraphs and less stream of consciousness and whatnot). Maddie's experiences SANG (not literally) when read this way.

I'm also going to say I had maybe had a little anxiety about what I thought was coming. Always expecting the worst does a number on a person's nerves, I guess. But Maddie survived and made good choices for the most part (I get what she was doing when she left her name and address around town so people would know to look for her, but HOLY HANNAH IT STRESSED ME OUT TO THINK OF ALL THE THINGS THAT COULD HAVE GONE WRONG) and things worked out for the best.

Bottom line: My niece has good taste in books and I'm glad she asked me to read this one. *thumbs up*
Synopsis (Goodreads):

When the lines are blurred between the dead and the living
Can love find a way for a ghost and a griffin?

Galina
When I drank the “harmless” punch at the Screaming Woods annual Halloween party, I never expected to wind up dead. Other townspeople grew tails and claws. Not me. Nope. I’m trapped in a realm between life and death. Doomed to wander in search of a cure for the curse. Which is pretty damn complicated when no one can see or hear me. No one except Xander, the town’s grumpy reclusive carpenter.

Xander
Transforming into a griffin robbed me of a natural existence. Now I keep to myself in the woods, making my hand-carved furniture. My fragile peace shatters when the ethereal beauty who’s been haunting my dreams stumbles onto my property. Galina’s innocent blue eyes and pure soul make a mockery of my vow never to love again. Her heart may not be beating, but she breathes new life into mine, and I’ll heaven and hell to keep my soulmate by my side.

Thoughts on Ghosting the Griffin: Xander and Galina are up and...they kind of have a lot to deal with. Mostly because Galina is dead-ish. Sort of dead. Mostly dead all day. Huh. That last part is pretty accurate, actually.

Anywho. Xander and Galina. On top of being an awesome mythical monster, Xander has the gift of sight and can see dead people (I'm having a full-on "I see dead people" moment. Give me a second. ... ... Okay. I'm good.). When he pops into Gregor's (his ogre friend who has himself a honey-bunny and a bun in the oven) guest house to start repairs, he finds Galina. Who's kind of dead. Maybe. But also maybe not. Things are tricky like that in Screaming Woods. Regardless of her dead or not-quite-dead state, Xander's smitten.

On Galina's end, she's stuck in a terrible loop of appearing every night in the house and reliving her death. Over and over and over and over again. Every night. It's not fun. She can't leave the house and she has few memories of who she is or how she got there. She just gets to die. A lot.

Well, Xander follows his instincts and breaks her out of her death loop (which is good), they go find Dr Karloff to try to figure out how to fix her issues, end up in an enchanted town nearby (just go with it), and get physical. A lot. Plus, they get to fly, Galina drinks a magic potion, and they get physical. Often. Did I mention they get physical? They do. And they deserve every second of that physicality.

They also have to figure out how to break the death issue for good. Because Xander's not about to give up his lady when he's just found her.

A little flying, a little magic, a little danger, and two people who find one another at exactly the right time. Good times!

Not all beasts are beastly.

Though Jude never complains about her daily struggles in Screaming Woods, she’s happy to let her troubles melt away when she travels in her dreams to an Enchanted Kingdom to meet a magical monarch who adores her.

The clues add up every morning, making her question if the passionate hours she shares with the affectionate horned king are more than wishes and hopes.

Journey with Jude and her son to the world dreams are made of to meet blue King Sargon and discover the magical kingdom most people believe is only found in fantasy.

Thoughts on Horn to be Wild: We're in Screaming Woods this time, but we're also NOT in Screaming Woods. It turns out there's a portal (of sorts) to a fantasy world that Jude (and her son) manage to tap into and they spend PLENTY of time exploring the Enchanted Kingdom with the handsome king.

What does that mean? Well, we still have monsters and the world has magic and Jude REALLY like Sargon. So it means it's the same old, same old when it comes to relationships in Screaming Woods. By that, I mean humans and monsters are very compatible.

As for Jude, her nighttime dreams are an escape of sorts from reality. Spending time with her son and a male who treats her like a queen are wonderful and she starts to suspect that these shared dreams might be more than just dreams. Which works for her because HOO-BOY does Sargon do it for her.

As for the big guy, he's pretty smitten with Jude and her son. And the more time he spends with them, the more he wants them in his life permanently.

A little magic, an enchanted world, and three people who make a perfect family. Good stuff!

Atlas
The feisty little female I hired to work as a receptionist in my detective agency is proving to be a delectable handful. Celeste is a temptress. She stirs long-forgotten desires with her delicious curves and sassy comebacks. But as tempting as she is, I need to remain professional. Losing myself in her sweetness could unleash the monster slumbering within me, and when he comes out to play, he won’t settle for anything less than possessing Celeste body and soul.

Celeste
My heart belongs to a 7-foot, growly monosyllabic detective. Atlas lives by strict rules and keeps his distance, but he can’t conceal the fire in his eyes whenever his gaze meets mine. I'm crazy about him, but his fear of revealing his true self makes him a tough case to crack. If my cautious Titan is the prize, I’ll work overtime to make him mine.

Thoughts on Tempting the Titan: This time around we have a lady who's new to Screaming Woods and a man who gets a little beastly if he lets go. Which means Atlas is VERY careful around Celeste because he really really doesn't want to hurt her.

That said, Celeste pushes the big guys boundaries every chance she gets. Sure, she feels a little guilty about it once she realizes his fear is more about hurting her than anything, but she likes him too much to let him keep putting himself in the background when it's obvious to her they'd make an excellent match. On the other hand, while Celeste sasses Atlas easily and enjoys seeing him step outside his comfort zone, she's hesitant to ask for help for herself. Which causes a little tension between the two.

A friendly game of golf, an encounter in the woods, a titan who needs to protect his lady, and a lady who might have found the perfect town to settle in.
Synopsis (Goodreads):

Can a bookish scientist find the man inside the monster?

Uncomfortable with people, Victoria spends her days - and her nights - working in her lab. When her funding is terminated, her only option is a dilapidated building in the tiny town of Screaming Woods.

To her surprise, the town's inhabitants prove almost as fascinating as her research - especially the massive creature living in the burned out windmill behind her lab. Everything about the big silent male captivates her and for once, it’s not a purely scientific interest.

After the incident that turned Frank into a monster, he discovered in the most painful way how dangerous he could be. Now he remains isolated from everyone and concentrates on his woodworking.

He is determined to not let anyone close to him - especially not the buttoned up little scientist renting his barn. She has far too many questions on those kissable lips.

As things heat up between them, can he believe he’s more than just another experiment? Or will his past tear them apart?

Thoughts on Without a Stitch: A Frankenstein-esque monster (who's aptly named Frank) and a scientist who didn't know monsters existed before she moved to Screaming Woods. YES!

To be fair, it's not all sunshine and roses for these two. Frank is wary of getting close to anyone and he's not real keen on scientists in general after the incident that changed most of the town into monsters. That said, even his dislike of scientists doesn't stop him from pining for Victoria. Okay, maybe pining is a little dramatic. He certainly can't stop thinking about her, though. And he likes the way she looks at him. There's just the little case of his wariness and his dislike to get over.

On Victoria's end, she isn't too taken aback by the oddities she finds in Screaming Woods. Frank is big and quiet and she's intrigued by him at first glance. Spending a little time together makes that intrigue blossom into something more. Convincing the big guy she's willing to try a relationship with him is probably their biggest hurdle.

MAN, I like spending time in Screaming Woods!

Randomly bursting into flames and regenerating on a regular basis made Ash Howell feel like an outsider in a town full of monsters.

Afraid of the damage he could do, the phoenix turned into a recluse…until Izzy Riley showed up in town.

The beautiful half-fae/half-demon imp knew what it felt like not to belong anywhere. That was why she left Hell, even though she was the King’s sister.

Izzy found her place in Screaming Woods—and with Ash. Now she just needed to survive the attempts on her life to get her happily ever after.

Thoughts on Hot as Sin: Oh man. Ash has it pretty rough because going out in a fiery blaze of glory only to be reborn sounds good on the surface, but it's not so great for the people around you. Or the furniture. Or the buildings. Meaning, Ash basically keeps to himself to avoid hurting anybody or anything. Which is understandable.

Then the hot phoenix gets talked into going to a local bar and his world gets rocked when he lays eyes on Izzy. Sure, he's still afraid of spontaneously combusting, but BOY does Izzy do it for him.

On Izzy's end, she's an imp who's never quite felt like she belonged. Settling in Screaming Woods has helped her find her place to a point, but it isn't until she meets Ash that things really start falling into place. Sure, she has someone gunning for her for reasons she's not quite certain of, but STILL.

A little demonic activity, a fae or two, a phoenix who refuses to potentially hurt the woman he's falling for with his phoenix fire, and a lady who goes all in (and without panties) when needed. GOOD TIMES!
