  • Amanda kicked off The Writing Sidekick this week, a community event revolving around April's Camp NaNo. If you're planning on participating and writing in April, this is the place you want to be!
  • Amanda also wants to remind us that typos happen! To everyone. Even when you've had several sets of eyes look your masterpiece over. Those typos are sneaky buggers. They're kinda like ninjas, hiding when you're looking for them only to pop out later and KILL YOU WITH THEIR NINJA SWORDS! Well, wait. Probably not that last part.
  • I spent WAY TOO MUCH time laughing hysterically over this - Jeff Goldblum's snarly laugh from Jurassic Park was sampled and turned into a TOTALLY AWESOME 3 minute song. HOLY BANANAS, I'M LAUGHING AGAIN!
  • And then there's this - book covers interacting IRL. Just... whoa. (Sure, it's no Jeff Goldblum snarl-laughing, but it's still pretty awesome.)

  • This has been one of THOSE weeks. I released the 1st box set in my Monstrous Tales series called (wait for it...) Monstrous Tales Volume 1. This includes books 1-3 (The Wicked Woods, The Wicked Wolf, The Wicked Dragon) plus a new short story set between books 1 & 2. I'm working on finishing up the first draft on book 5 in the series so I can focus on releasing book 4 and... maybe that's it.
  • I got a kick out of seeing the cast of The Princess Bride reunited after 25 years. Btw, OMG! TWENTY FIVE YEARS? WHAT?
  • Since I've been dealing with formatting and publishing this week, it seems especially appropriate to see Amanda talking about JUST THAT at The Path of Least Revision.

  • The fantastic Amanda gave us some insight into content vs copy editing. I *might* have added in some words of wisdom there. As did the fabulous Christi Snow! Then Amanda kept putting my author picture up on social media TO FREAK ME OUT BECAUSE SUDDENLY I WAS STARING AT MYSELF AND O.O O.O O.O (no worries, I got over it. mostly.)
  • Since I'm already talking about Amanda, she also wrote a post (last week. I'm slow.) about how to deal with feedback. Having the right mindset about feedback is SO important.
  • On a less writerly note, I always get a kick out of the creativity people show when they do things like redesign Disney princess dressed to accurately reflect the time period they take place in. Seriously. It makes me all smiley when I see stuff like that.
  • If you need a motivational kick in the pants to get your reviews written, join The Book Vixen in the Write On review-a-thon. It looks like she's planning to hold this once a month, so even if you can't make it this time, there's always next month!

  • Bwahahahahaha! Stormtroopers already make me laugh. This? IS HILARIOUS!
  • Amanda gave a self-publishing webinar this week. She totally called me out for overusing the word THROB in my books. For the record, I'm totally down with that because I DID overuse it (but I'm learning to find other words to use in its place!). Anyway. If self-publishing interests you (or you want to see me get called about my incessant throbbing), watch it (and check out her storify of the tweets). Then sign up for her February webinar which is going to be on blog content creation. C'mon! You know you wanna!
  • As long as I'm talking about Amanda, she also wrote a post about the importance of beta-readers. I've beta read a few books and I find it challenging (and FUN!) but it's not always easy to articulate where a disconnect happened in a story. From a writer's perspective, it's SO IMPORTANT to get quality feedback on your story. You might understand the story you're trying to tell, but do others?
