Synopsis (Goodreads):
Caught between two vampires, Connie is torn between Rurik, the one she loves and Tane, the one she’d love to stake.

Hunger burns in Connie Bences’ soul--she craves the blood of her vampire lover, Rurik, but it’s not satisfying her needs anymore. It’s driving her insane. Desperate to find help, Rurik brings her to Rio De Janeiro, where Tane rules the vampire nation.

The back-stabbing vampire almost killed her and Rurik when they’d first met, then used them to obtain his crown. She would rather stake him, but the small drop of Nosferatu blood he’d forced her to drink in Budapest is blooming into a bond, one which ties her life to his. One he won’t hesitate to manipulate.

He admits to binding her so Rurik would have to remain at his side, but their timing couldn’t be any worse. The betrayer finds himself betrayed. Tane’s rule is in upheaval and he’s forced to place his trust in two people who owe him no allegiance—her and Rurik. In the middle of a power struggle, Connie fights to keep her lover, but didn’t plan on Tane slipping into her heart.
Thoughts on Catch: It's been a while since I read book 1 in this series. That said, I had no problems jumping back into this world and all the craziness Connie was immersed in. And, yes, despite having the hunky Rurik to protect her, Connie is once again in the middle of some seriously dangerous shenanigans.

I wasn't a huge fan of Tane in the first book. Learning he'd fed Connie his blood to tie Rurik to him through her didn't change my opinion of him. Then he started to show another side. And, dangit, the guy started to grow on me. It's hard to hold a grudge against someone trying to do his best to keep his people together while attempting to carve out a little happiness for himself.

I'm not going to lie, the potential for a threesome might have swayed me in his direction, too. Because nothing says FUN like two vamps giving it to a girl.

Fast paced with just the right amount of gore and plenty of sexy times. Book 3 looks verrrrry interesting.

Synopsis (Goodreads):
Imp, deceiver, villainous mastermind… Rumpelstiltskin’s been called all these names and more, and for the most part, they’re entirely true. But there is more to the brooding, blond haired Adonis than brokering deals for the devil. He’s hiding a terrible, hideous secret. One that threatens to fray the already delicate strands of his sanity and reason. A secret that he’s desperate to make right, to see whole again, and there is no one and nothing that will stand in his way of getting what he wants—no one except a slip of woman with hair like fire and skin like finest porcelain. Something about Shayera Caron calls to the beast inside him and makes him question his motives for the first time in his life.

Shayera Caron is the daughter of the infamous Gerard Caron, former lothario of Kingdom but now a reformed rake and settled husband and father. She can go nowhere in her tiny hamlet without seeing the sneers of women and hearing the murmurings of their disdain for the blood that runs through her veins. Shayera is desperate to get away from the gossiping hens, so when Rumpelstiltskin rides into town, she doesn’t think twice before going wherever he leads. Only thing is Shayera is not as innocent as she might seem, for she hides a secret too. One that will bring the most feared man in all of Kingdom to his knees…
Thoughts on Rumpel's Prize: Soooo. Fair warning, grown-up fairy tales are sort of a weakness of mine. Not quite as much as sexy sci-fi, but still a weakness. This entire series pretty much hits the spot for me. Magic, shenanigans and other crazy things. I LIKE!

What can I say about Rumpel except he's got a little dysfunction going on. He's carrying a heavy load and his secret isn't a pretty one. Falling for Shayera could easily throw all his plans into disarray. Naturally, he fights the attraction. Because that secret and those plans are kinda important.

Meanwhile, Shayera has some issues of her own. Ones that kinda suck. Not in a sexy way. Not going to lie, when these two finally drop their guards enough to indulge in some hanky-panky, it's smokin'! And their work-around for Shayera's issue was one I liked. Because one should always be oneself when steaming up the sheets.

I'm loving this series overall and now I want to go back and pick up the books I missed. You can never have enough grown-up, sexy as hell fairy tales, in my opinion.

Synopsis (Goodreads):
Eve hadn’t wanted a second marriage, she wanted to remain happily unmarried rather than curse another good man to Rob’s fate. If only Tul had listened to her protestations. Instead the Senate are intent on making her relive her own personal hell. Worse, the instrument they seem intent on using to bring about her suffering is the creature, the merciless drone they’d created from all that remained of Rob.

The world seems to be conspiring against Eve and the Alliance, and even among Johan’s band of rebels not everyone is happy to have Eve as part of the group. With Tul missing and friends few on the ground, Eve begins to slip back into the pit of despair which had once consumed her and that may just lead her to behave more recklessly than ever before. Mistakes have consequences however, and for Eve the consequences of her actions may just decide the course of the future.

Is there a way to save Tul? Does anything of Rob remain in the Senate controlled puppet his body’s become? More importantly, why are the Senate determined to take control of Eve and just how far will they go to gain possession of her?
Thoughts on Allegiance: I enjoyed this book. Things go bad in a big way for Eve (BIG WAY), but we're given plenty of answers as to why she's been made to suffer through the years and what's been going on behind the scenes with the Senate. And those answers are a little frightening. THINGS HAPPEN, GUYS! THINGS HAPPEN!

And Eve's at the heart of it all.

Not by choice, either. She's a victim of circumstances she can't control and she doesn't always handle what happens to her well. She falls down and has to drag herself back up. Over and over again. Finding out what Rob's been turned into at the end of book 1 sets off a chain of events that culminates in betrayal of the worst kind, death, destruction, and Eve coming into her own.

I am VERY intrigued to see how all this will play out in the next book. It looks like Eve's barely scratched the surface on what she's capable of and now there's a whole slew of new badness to contend with.

Bring it on!

Synopsis (Goodreads):
Desperate to escape agonizing memories of Christmas past, twenty-nine-year-old widow Megan Snow builds a snow family outside the mountain cabin she once shared with her husband, realizing too late that she’s recreated the very thing she’ll never have.

Called to life by Megan’s tears, snow god Owen Winters appears unconscious on her doorstep in the midst of a raging blizzard. As she nurses him to health, Owen finds unexpected solace in her company and unimagined pleasure in the warmth of her body, and vows to win her heart for a chance at humanity.

Megan is drawn to Owen’s mismatched eyes, otherworldly masculinity, and enthusiasm for the littlest things. But this Christmas miracle comes with an expiration—before the snow melts and the temperature rises, Megan must let go of her widow’s grief and learn to trust love again, or she’ll lose Owen forever.
Thoughts on North of Need: Aww. I reeeeaaaaaally liked this one. Owen. OWEN. He was just so adorable and enthusiastic about everything. And Megan. Poor lady. She was a wreck when Owen showed up on her doorstep. An absolute wreck. With good reason, mind you. Watching her come alive again and find her way out of her grief to see what she has in front of her made me smile.

Plus, OWEN.

Yeah, I liked the guy. Can you tell?

Anyway. Besides Owen's enthusiasm and Megan's pain, I kinda adored the world building here. Gods. GODS. And their limitations. I mean, their powers are cool, too. BUT THOSE LIMITATIONS. Owen's expiration date was painful to watch approaching because the potential for badness was so great.

So, I really, really liked this book and I'm all over the next ones in the series. THEY ARE CALLING TO ME. (not literally, though, because that would be creepy.)

Synopsis (Goodreads):
Elise Kavanagh is marching on New Eden, the city angels have built from the bones of human victims. She's hellbent on making them atone for their sins--no matter the cost. Rylie Gresham has realized that werewolves are the key to defeating angels. They're apex predators, designed to bring powerful, immortal beings to heel. She has no choice but to follow Elise into war against Heaven…especially since it's the only way to protect her family from complete annihilation. The angels are prepared to defend themselves. Their magic will tear the universe apart. And if they have their way, there will soon be no Earth left to save...
Thoughts on Torn by Fury: I have a love/fear relationship with S.M. Reine's books. I love her writing, the characters, the non-stop action that wriggles out of the pages. At the same time, I have this instinctive fear response that tells me I'm going to have my heart ripped out while reading it. Somebody (probably Abel. Or Elise. Elise would totally do this, come to think of it. TOTALLY.) will also attempt to choke me with said heart. Maybe pull off a limb and beat me with it.

Guys, I love these books and I'm terrified of them. WELL PLAYED, S.M. REINE! Well played!

So. Yep. This time around I was gutted. Still am. My guts are lying on the floor next to me. It's not pretty. But then, most of the things Elise has to deal with aren't, so I'm in good company. Flat out, the ending is a doozy. Oh, and that middle part. And then there was the time in the beginning. And that other time.

You know what? The whole book is awesome. It's chock full of evisceration, beheadings, painful death, and epic badassery. Elise gets things done with style. Bloody, painful style. And I like that.
