Review: How To Marry a Millionaire Vampire (Love at Stake #1) by Kerrelyn Sparks

Synopsis (via Goodreads):
So what if he's a bit older and usually regards a human female as dinner, not a dinner date? Yes, Roman Draganesti is a vampire, but a vampire who lost one of his fangs sinking his teeth into something he shouldn't have. Now he has one night to find a dentist before his natural healing abilities close the wound, leaving him a lop–sided eater for all eternity.

Things aren't going well for Shanna Whelan either...After witnessing a gruesome murder by the Russian mafia, she's next on their hit list. And her career as a dentist appears to be on a downward spiral because she's afraid of blood. When Roman rescues her from an assassination attempt, she wonders if she's found the one man who can keep her alive. Though the attraction between them is immediate and hot, can Shanna conquer her fear of blood to fix Roman's fang? And if she does, what will prevent Roman from using his fangs on her...
My Thoughts: This is one of those books that sounds silly on paper (brilliant, scientist vamp seeks dentist for midnight fang-fixing) but which ended up working quite nicely in reality.  Okay, I really need to say this before I get started: I have nothing against dentists, but spending the day (or night, as in Shanna's case) with your fingers in someone's mouth just doesn't sound the least bit appealing to me.  Also, it's not really a sexy profession.  You know what I'm saying?  They have to deal with drool and weird eye-guards and unsexy gloves and ... more drool.  I mean, I personally don't know a whole lot of people who are like "WHOO-HOO!  I'm going to the dentist for a ROOT CANAL!"  So, the fact that Kerrelyn Sparks took this unsexy profession and stuck it in the middle of a paranormal romance impresses me.  Way to go!

Overall, I liked the world that's been created.  I loved, loved, loved the Highlanders and I'm super excited to read more about them in later books.  What?  I like men in kilts.  In fact, seeing a man in a kilt makes me blush.  No fooling.  I liked Roman simply because he had that total absent minded scientist thing going for him and that's always cute.  I liked Shanna when she was with Roman.  Did I mention that I loved the Highlanders?  IT'S TRUE!

I will freely admit that I like the later covers in this series way, way, way more than this one.  Honestly, I like looking at sexy vamps far more than this type of cartoon-y cover.  But that's just me.  And the cover really had nothing to do with how much I enjoyed the Highlanders... err, book.  How much I enjoyed the book.
