Synopsis (Goodreads):
Sixteen years ago, on a snowy December night, seer Danny Frost received a message from a mage that sent him running from the love of his life, Marissa Cane. Since then, Christmas has never been the same. But when Marissa unexpectedly walks back into his life, he’s determined to right past wrongs and maybe find a way to heal both of their hearts.Thoughts on A Witch for Mr. Garland: We're back in Christmas Grove and this time we have Danny Frost (cousin to Atlas) and pub owner Marissa making magic. Well, sort of. These two are a little complicated in that they were married previously (when they were MUCH younger) and circumstances had them parting. While they've both tried to move on, they haven't really forgotten one another.
Marissa Cane’s heart was shattered at just nineteen, and since that day she stopped believing in fairy tales. So when a sugar plum fairy shows up in her adopted town of Christmas Grove with a message that could change everything, she’s skeptical to say the least. But when an old curse rears its ugly head, the only way to keep her safe is to let Danny Frost back into her life. Now they need to work together to break the curse and to do that, they’ll need a little holiday magic along the way.
So. Circumstances. By that, I mean a curse. One that had Danny seeing visions of the woman he loved being hurt in worse and worse ways. Not wanting Marissa to die most horribly, Danny gave his regrets and fled for the hills. Metaphorically. Unfortunately, he didn't share why he was leaving with Marissa and she's spent the last decade plus just knowing he'd left.
Now they're in the same place at the same time, trying to put down roots in magical Christmas Grove. When a sugar plum fairy trying gain her wings shows up, Marissa realizes she might not be as over Danny as she's been trying to convince herself. Learning about the curse and what they need to do to break it isn't ideal, but she's willing to give it a try. After all, it's not like she's still IN LOVE WITH her ex or anything, RIGHT?!?!
A little holiday magic, visions of both the good and bad variety, a dog-centric parade, a man who tries to do the right thing whenever he can, and a lady who has to learn to trust again with the person she loves the most. *thumbs up*
