Robyn has found the tomb of the most powerful vampire in the world. Now, different forces in the underworld either want to steal the secret or make sure it dies with her.My Thoughts: Blood, guts and gore. Yep, Lucifera and Mickey are back and they're ripping through their enemies with relish. (Somebody please stop me from putting a joke about condiments in here... Must control wayward thoughts...)
Two things stand in their way:
The vampiress Lucifera and her werewolf companion.
Whoever survives will find that the lesser of two evils is not always the right choice.
The biggest draw for me with this series is how M.T. Murphy manages to make Lucifera and Mickey's love for one another shine through the blood and decapitations. The two of them revel in the chaos they cause, they're not nice people and I still grin like a fool whenever they start giving one another those smoldering looks. Wait. I want to rephrase that: Even though they're not necessarily nice, they are honorable. They have a code and they stand by it. They're loyal to those that are loyal to them. Sure, they still like to rip people apart and leave frozen bodies hidden in unexpected places but, you know, who doesn't in this day and age?
I honestly loved this book. It's big and dark and Mickey gets a few answers to questions he didn't know he should be asking. The secondary characters are fabulous and they compliment Lucy and Mickey in ways that I didn't see coming. The backstabbing and political dealings twist things up enough that you won't know who to trust. The bad guys are bad enough that you'll be cheering as they get cut down to size (sometimes literally).
This book closes out its storyline nicely while leaving things open for later books. Which, for the record, I will be thrilled with. Because, apparently, I can't get enough of bloodthirsty killers who happen to be in love.

Never heard of this author or the books. They sound very gritty and different. Gonna have to look into these some more. Thanks for sharing this great review.
ReplyDeleteVanessa: I've loved both books in this series. They're bloody and violent and FUN!
