Synopsis (Goodreads):
A former blood slave, the vampire Zsadist still bears the scars from a past filled with suffering and humiliation. Renowned for his unquenchable fury and sinister deeds, he is a savage feared by humans and vampires alike. Anger is his only companion and terror his only passion-until he rescues a beautiful female from the evil Lessening Society.

Bella is instantly entranced by the seething power Zsadist possesses. But even as their desire for each other begins to overtake them, Zsadist's thirst for vengeance against Bella's tormentors drives him to the brink of madness. Now Bella must help her lover overcome the wounds of his tortured past and find a future with her.
My Thoughts:  For the love of small furry animals!  I really didn't think this series could get any more emotionally wrenching.  I was wrong, people.  Wrong wrong wrong.  This book KILLED me.  It ripped out vital internal organs and left me for dead.  DEAD!

I know I keep saying that I have a thing for the bad boys and that's totally true.  For the love of Pete, bad boys are awesome but there's one thing that consistently flays me alive: if the bad boy happens to be totally damaged.  Do you know who's damaged here?  Zsadist!  The guy is a freaking mess.  He's pushed himself so far and so hard that I don't know how he's still standing.  He doesn't trust himself around Bella.  He doesn't think he's worthy of anyone's trust or love.  He's just a terrible, tragic mess.

I seriously can't get the guy out of my head.  *pets him*

Once again, though, the strength in this book isn't just the story (which is heartbreaking and sad and shreds me from the inside out) but it's also in the secondary characters.  Phury, for one, really stood out.  John Matthew, who was introduced in book 2, gets more of a storyline.  Vishous tweaks Butch's life in a twist I didn't see coming.  Bella's brother Revhenge intrigues the heck out of me.  Tohrment.  Oh, Tohrment.  I can't handle how much I love all these guys.

I honestly don't know why I waited so long to read these books.  They're densely written, the mythology continues to grow, the characters are insanely fantastic... in short, the books are outstanding.

  5. Alyssa: How can they get better? HOW?!?! My heart was ripped out with this one. I don't think I can physically stand it if they're any more awesome.

Celine: Sooooo good. I'm so glad I can sit here and read them back to back.

  6. Finished - 2am - Can't wait to start the next one (actually I couldn't - I already did this morning.) I love the way JR Ward pulls all the characters in (not just the main 2) and the reader right along with them :) Z & Bella were wonderful, & yes, I shed another tear.

  7. creativedeeds: I need to get back on the ball and finish this series. I've only read through Lover Unbound (book 5). I can't remember now why I didn't power through this series with the strength of a thousand suns. Hmm. I'd better get on that.

  8. Yeah Kelly, you better. I have a feeling I might pass you. I am over halfway through Lover Revealed. It's getting really good now. And yeah, I have the others on their way from Amazon. All but the last one. Trying to hold out until it is in paper back... we'll see how that goes. I've got to start a new series so I can get these BDB boys out of my head. They are addictive!
