Review: Hostage to Pleasure (Psy-Changeling #5) by Nalini Singh

Synopsis (Goodreads):
Ashaya Aleine was separated from her son, forced to create a neural implant that will forever enslave her psychically gifted Psy race. After fighting a desperate battle to save her child and escape the PsyNet, she's lead not to safety, but into the lethal danger of a sniper's embrace.
My Thoughts:  It's been some time since I last visited Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling world.  I missed those Changelings.  They have all that hot, feral, smoldering sexuality at their fingertips and that's so nicely paired against the Psy coldness.  Add in the overriding arc about shattering Silence and potentially giving Psys (Umm... is that the correct plural of Psy? It looks weird.) the choice to embrace Silence or not and you have one fun series.

Dorian is the bad-ass latent shifter who can't shift.  He's made himself faster and stronger to compensate for this but his inability to shift hurts both him and his cat on a fundamental level.  Still, he's an integral part of the clan and he defends them with his very life.  He's also still dealing with the emotional fallout from his sister's murder in book 1.  He doesn't want to be attracted to a Psy because he still blames all Psy for allowing the psycho who killed her to run free.  Yet, from his first interaction with Ashaya when he had her in his sights and could have killed her without a second thought, he's drawn to her.

Ashaya has a lot of baggage.  Frankly, she's a mess.  She puts up a good front but she's crumbling and she knows it.  Like I said, it's been a while since I read these books but I don't recall the issue of the bonding of twins in the PsyNet being brought up before.  I thought it was interesting that the Psy allow such close ties to form when they normally discourage any sort of bonding.

Needless to say, this was a solid entry in the series.  Nalini Singh creates wonderfully well rounded characters who are great fun to read.  The twists on who is working against the council keep coming and you really don't know who to trust in the long run.  Fun, fast paced and sexy.  Loved it.
