Review: Blood Bound (Unbound #1) by Rachel Vincent

Synopsis (Goodreads):
By blood, by word, by magic…

Most can't touch the power. But Liv Warren is special— a paranormal tracker who follows the scent of blood.

Liv makes her own rules, and the most important one is trust no one.

But when her friend's daughter goes missing, Liv has no choice but to find the girl. Thanks to a childhood oath, Liv can't rest until the child is home safe. But that means trusting Cam Caballero, the former lover forbidden to her.

Bound by oath and lost in desire for a man she cannot have, Liv is racing to save the child from a dark criminal underworld where secrets, lies, trauma and danger lurk around every corner…every touch…every kiss.

And more blood will be spilled before it's over…
My Thoughts:  I'm having a hard time writing this review and I can't figure out why.  I like the story.  I like the characters.  I like the angst, the simmering sexual tension, the blood bonds, the twists, the turns, the rollercoaster-like loops.  So, why am I fretting about what to write?  Why?  Honestly, there's no answer to that question.  It's an answerless question.  Which is just a sad, sad thing to write.

The bottom line is that I liked this book.  It's gritty and dark.  It has blood and bullets.  It was gooooood.  I really, really liked the whole blood-bonding idea.  I like the mythology behind the names and the different manifestations of the talents.  I liked...well, I liked the whole damn book.

Liv and Cam had an interesting relationship.  She did things that hurt him, he did what he had to do to stay close to her.  Liv's relationship with her childhood friends was intriguing.  Liv's relationship with the criminal side of the city was creepy.  The ending had me gasping and giving crazy internet eyes. @.@

The well thought out mythology had me hooked.  The twists and turns of Liv's life kept me glued to the pages.  I was pleased. Very pleased.

  3. I just finished this one as well and could not put it down!!! I thought it was a great beginning to this series and loved how dark and gritty it was. Glad to hear that you enjoyed it as well. (And if it makes you feel better I have been putting off writing my review because I'm struggling on deciding what I want to say as well)

Under the Covers: It was very cool and dark. I can't figure out why I had such a hard time writing this review.

samantha.1020: It does make me feel better. Usually when I have a hard time writing a review it's because I didn't connect with the book. That wasn't the case this time. :/
