Review: Seduction of a Highland Lass by Maya Banks

Seduction of a Highland Lass (McCabe Trilogy #2) by Maya Banks
Synopsis (Goodreads):
Fiercely loyal to his elder brother, Alaric McCabe leads his clan in the fight for their birthright. Now he is prepared to wed for duty, as well. But on his way to claim the hand of Rionna McDonald, daughter of a neighboring chieftain, he is ambushed and left for dead. Miraculously, his life is saved by the soft touch of a Highland angel, a courageous beauty who will put to the test his fealty to his clan, his honor, and his deepest desires.

An outcast from her own clan, Keeley McDonald was betrayed by those she loved and trusted. When the wounded warrior falls from his horse, she is drawn to his strong, lean body. The wicked glint in his green eyes ignites a passion that will follow them back to Alaric’s keep, where their forbidden love draws them deeper into the pleasures of the flesh. But as conspiracy and danger circle closer, Alaric must make an impossible choice: Will he betray his blood ties for the woman he loves?
My Thoughts: For the love of Pete! I'd like to know how Maya Banks manages to reduce me to tears with every book of hers that I've read. Coming from someone who doesn't cry (What? It's true. Or it was. Until recently. Maybe I need to start reading books that don't drag me kicking and screaming into them so I don't get all tied up with the characters and end up uber-emotional.), this whole sobbing while reading thing is KILLING ME DEAD!

What did I like about this book? Geez. You'd be better off asking me what I didn't like. I honestly loved every little piece of it. I loved Alaric and his brothers. I loved Keely's gratitude at being given a home with the McCabes. I loved how Caelen grew to admire Keely's loyalty to his brother. Since Caelen's sort of the big grouchy bear of the three brothers, this was BIG! I just... *huggles the entire book*

Okay, maybe there was one teeny, tiny little thing that bothered me. I get that Alaric believed he needed to do his duty to his clan by marrying Rionna. I admire that he was willing to put his own wants aside even though it was practically ripping his heart out. What I didn't like is that when Ewan is pushing Alaric to marry Rionna because the King wants to see the two clans united and Alaric asks Ewan if he'd be able to give up Mairin under similar circumstances and Ewan is all HELL NO! but then he still expects Alaric to do it. Wait. What? So... you won't give up your lady love but you expect your brother to? Not cool Ewan. Not cool at all.

That said, I pretty much loved this book. Keely was such a fantastic, strong-willed character and Alaric and she had great chemistry right from the start. When he was unconscious. On her floor. Don't ask me how she did it, but Maya Banks even managed to make that romantic.

I am super excited to read book 3. I just hop it doesn't turn me into another snotty, sodden mess.

  2. I LOVED this series! Amanda if you are looking for one this is it---it has great stories, yummy men, and strong women. Plus the second trilogy is starting soon--not soon enough IMHO but then again patience is never my strong suit.

Also Kelly--I cried too! In this one, and then the third one I swear I went through a box of kleenex. I don't know how that woman makes me cry but she does--even in her freaking KGI series. I might be a bit of a fan girl.

    1. I didn't even know there WAS a second trilogy until someone mentioned it very very very recently. I'm cheering inwardly over this!

Crap. I'm going to be a mess when I'm reading book 3, aren't I? Okay. I'll plan for this and stock up on tissues. Lol!
