Review: Archangel's Blade by Nalini Singh

Archangel's Blade (Guild Hunter #4) by Nalini Singh
Synopsis (Goodreads):
The severed head marked by a distinctive tattoo on its cheek should have been a Guild case, but dark instincts honed over hundreds of years of life compel the vampire Dmitri to take control. There is something twisted about this death, something that whispers of centuries long past...but Dmitri's need to discover the truth is nothing to the vicious strength of his response to the hunter assigned to decipher the tattoo.

Savaged in a brutal attack that almost killed her, Honor is nowhere near ready to come face to face with the seductive vampire who is an archangel's right hand, and who wears his cruelty as boldly as his lethal sensuality...the same vampire who has been her secret obsession since the day she was old enough to understand the inexplicable, violent emotions he aroused in her.

As desire turns into a dangerous compulsion that might destroy them both, it becomes clear the past will not stay buried. Something is hunting...and it will not stop until it brings a blood-soaked nightmare to life once more...
My Thoughts: Okay, is it me or is Dmitri freaking hotness personified? I'm just... whoa. The guy knows how to treat a lady right. And how to punish his underlings in really brutal and horrific ways to keep them in line. It's weird, but I totally *get* the brutality thing. If death isn't enough to keep the vampires under Raphael in line, then Dmitri has to get creative. He has to make them fear him. He does an excellent job at that.

Honor was an interesting choice as Dmitri's other half. She's still mentally recovering from her imprisonment by a group of sadistic vampires and Dmitri isn't exactly the easiest vamp to be around. Yet, it works. He takes his time with her and she pushes herself to work past her fears. She teases his memories out of him and he makes sure that the vampires who violated her pay for what they've done. Like I said, it works.

I really do love that we're getting to see Raphael's Seven in a new light. Each of them are so haunted by their pasts that being able to dig under all the sarcasm and pain and nastiness is fabulous. Dmitri has consistently been the one to point out that Elena is a big, big chink in Raphael's armor and now we get to see him fall. I do enjoy seeing a strong man brought to his knees by a lady who is technically so much weaker than he is.

  1. Hmm. Dmitri. I remember him. Vaguely. He was kind of a scary ass if I remember correctly. Also, stop making me want to read this series! How many reviews left are there? Two?

    1. Yep. One more today and one tomorrow. Dmitri has the sex scent thing. He smiles like chocolate and other yummy things to entice his prey to him. He's also pretty awesome. You'll see what I mean.
