Songs of Magic Game: Creature Cards

Today, we have a guest post from the (mostly) fabulous J.L. Bryan today. *finger guns* to him for paying attention to my love of safaris! As well as loving wild things and safaris, I also think this series rocks! And not just because it's about a band!

Without any further ado... Mr. J.L. Bryan!

One of my favorite things about writing the Songs of Magic series is the freedom to create all kinds of fun, magical, silly, and often pun-based settings and creatures. To celebrate the release of Fairyvision, the fifth book in the Songs of Magic series, I’ve dreamed up elements of a Songs of Magic board game (which does not actually exist in any form...) and asked some bloggers to share them as guest posts.

I asked Kelly at Reading the Paranormal to post a few of the “Creature Cards” from the game, because Kelly is such a huge fan of animals that she often goes on safari.  The Creature Cards are presented by Rhodia the Harpist, a fairy who never saw a creepy-crawler critter that didn’t make her scream for someone else to come and deal with it.

Unicorn: Unicorns are pastel-and-glitter-colored creatures brimming with magical power. They are small, not much larger than a beagle, and they like music, dancing, their own reflections, and all things pretty. Unicorns also have razor-sharp teeth and a bad attitude.

Zombie Cows: The mysterious, enigmatic bovine life of the ghost-filled Hauntlands, in the west of Faerie.

Loanshark: These gilled gangsters are the big fish in the underwater underworld under the sea in Faerie. They are easily the most feared among all aquatic criminals. Cross them, and you’ll be sleeping with the fishes.

Sugar Fly: An irritating sugar swamp bug that feeds on sweetness and leaves red sucker marks on your skin, the sugar fly is the chief prey of the brown sugar bat, which eats them by the snoutful.

  6. I have not read about the sea yet. I've got to get to the next two books to complete the series. Man a loan shark that's a real shark! You have to love that! And Zombie Cows? Something for everyone! You should see those Unicorns in action. Don't mess with them!
