Review: Highlander Most Wanted by Maya Banks

Highlander Most Wanted (The Montgomerys and Armstrongs #2) by Maya Banks
Synopsis (Goodreads):
Genevieve McInnes is locked behind the fortified walls of McHugh Keep, captive of a cruel laird who takes great pleasure in ruining her for any other man. Yet when Bowen Montgomery storms the gates on a mission of clan warfare, Genevieve finds that her spirit is bent but not broken. Still, her path toward freedom remains uncertain. Unable to bear the shame of returning to a family that believes her dead or to abandon others at the keep to an imposing new laird, Genevieve opts for the peaceful life of an abbess. But Bowen’s rugged sensuality stirs something deep inside her that longs to be awakened by his patient, gentle caress—something warm, wicked, and tempting.

Bowen seizes his enemy’s keep, unprepared for the brooding and reclusive woman who captures his heart. He’s enchanted by her fierce determination, her unusual beauty, and her quiet, unfailing strength. But wooing her will take more than a seasoned seducer’s skill. For loving Genevieve, he discovers, means giving her back the freedom that was stolen from her—even if it means losing her forever.
My Thoughts: Man, I love this series. Actually, I'm partial to all the Maya Banks books that I've read but this series, these characters, the BAD THINGS that happen to them in the course of them finding happiness... well, all of it slays me. Plus, I'm kind of a sucker for a guy who carries a sword and has family pride and steps in to do what's right. You know, all the Montgomerys and Armstrongs are turning out to be utterly swoon worthy.

So. This time around we have Genevieve who has suffered a horrible, awful year at the hands of Ian McHugh. She's been violated on many, many levels and yet she still has the decency to step forward and attempt to protect the very people who shun her for what she's been forced to endure. Just like Eveline's story, I *felt* for poor Genevieve. Her heartache, her stoic acceptance of the way people treated her, her desire to hide from the world crept through from page one and wouldn't let go. Her fear that she what had happened to her would bring shame down on her family made me want to both shake her and cry for her. Fortunately for her, Bowen saw past all her insecurities and he *listened* when her story was told. I like a guy who listens. Yeah, they had their moments of misunderstanding but they worked through those. Oh, and the sex was steamy. Highlanders sure know how to treat a lady right.

This series is an emotional ride, the characters grab you and don't let go, and the heartache feels very real. I am completely smitten by these Montgomerys and Armstrongs. Completely.

  1. I just reviewed the first in this is series this week. I really do plan on continuing with the series. I think I need to spend some more time with historical romances before I can really love them.
