Review: Unravel Me By Tahereh Mafi

Unravel Me (Shatter Me #2) by Tahereh Mafi

it's almost

time for war.

Juliette has escaped to Omega Point. It is a place for people like her—people with gifts—and it is also the headquarters of the rebel resistance.

She's finally free from The Reestablishment, free from their plan to use her as a weapon, and free to love Adam. But Juliette will never be free from her lethal touch.

Or from Warner, who wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible.

In this exhilarating sequel to Shatter Me, Juliette has to make life-changing decisions between what she wants and what she thinks is right. Decisions that might involve choosing between her heart—and Adam's life.
My Thoughts: This is one of those books that grabbed me by the throat, held me down, and let me know who's boss. Seriously. I am so wound up after reading it. I have all these emotions and *flaily* hands and there might be a little wide-eyed staring as I attempt to get my thoughts in order.

Guys, I had the feeling after reading Destroy Me that Warner was going to confuse me. He's brutal and cold and he's done things that no normal 19 year old would normally consider... and I like him. I like the way he is around Juliette. I like that he has all these secrets and his actions aren't always what they seem to be on the surface. I'm confused now. CONFUSED. I'm as confused as Juliette when certain things come to light. I don't want to like him but I can't help myself. I don't want him to come between Juliette and Adam but I still like the dynamic between Warner and Juliette. Tahereh Mafi has successfully broken my brain again. Dang it.

On the other side, there were a few things I didn't like. I was honestly appalled at the way they treated Juliette in the beginning. I get that there are WAY bigger things going on than the mental well-being of one girl but the way Castle expected her to just assimilate into their group without any issues after spending the last several years locked away didn't work for me. I think a big part of the problem was Castle in general. He's so... earnest. While I can respect that he's managed to build a sanctuary for people with extraordinary abilities, I didn't like him all that much. How idealistic is it to not have holding cells within Omega Point? Did he honestly think there would never be a point that someone would require containment? I'm making my frowny face now. Can you tell?

Adam and Juliette killed me. Warner and Juliette killed me. Kenji is pretty awesome. Arrogant and convinced of his own sex-appeal, but awesome all the same. The Supreme Commander is... well, he's just full of secrets and surprises, isn't he? Juliette is slowly learning to fit into the world around her and I can only hope that the revelations she had toward the end of the book carry through and give her the strength to not slip back into the girl who apologizes for breathing too hard.

You know, my brain's still broken but I think it's the good type of broken. The type that wants more and more and more of this world and these characters and all the twists and turns that got them to where they are.

If the next novella rivals Destroy Me, I'm going to be a big puddle of goo before book 3 comes out!

    1. Amy. AMY! The novella is SO GOOD. It made me understand Warner in a way that I didn't in Shatter Me. He has all these LAYERS! Go forth and read it! Then read Unravel Me and flail!
