Unleash the Positivity! [Discussion Post]

(Kelly's note: This post was written prior to the plagiarism drama that recently hit.)

Lately, I've been seeing a spate of negativity hitting Twitter and the blogosphere. It bothers me. It bothers me to see Twitter users with big followings throwing out incendiary comments left and right. It bothers me to see these same users responding with vitriol and attacks and claiming that they have the right to their opinion as they attack others FOR THEIR OWN OPINIONS.

Guys, there's enough room on the internet for all of us. It's okay to have your own opinions. It's okay to disagree with others about their opinions. It's not okay to say hurtful and degrading things when you disagree. It's not okay to be intentionally rude.

The thing that's killing me here is that I DON'T FOLLOW these people who are doing these things that I find distasteful. Yet, I can't seem to escape the RTs and shares. If someone is acting horrible and is intentionally bashing others, WHY ARE WE FANNING THE FLAMES by giving them MORE ATTENTION?

Instead, let's start celebrating the positives more. Marie Forleo (author and business coach) had a quote graphic up on her Facebook page the other day. It said "Promote what you love instead of bashing what you hate." THIS is what I want to see more of!

I'm going to start RIGHT NOW: 21 pictures that will restore your faith in humanity (Seriously, some of these made me cry because OMG! I LOVE IT!)

JOIN ME! Share a quote, a website, a book, a smile! Promote what you love! Do it here in the comments! Do it on your own site! I don't care where, just DO IT! (although if you do it on your own site I'd love a link so I can join in the love fest!)

  1. I'm all over positivity! There are too many people on Twitter (and elsewhere) who live for the drama of it all, who crow about others' missteps and downfalls and pounce like rabid cats when it happens. I do my damnedest to avoid all that crap.

    1. EXACTLY, MARY! I don't know what causes this mindset, but it's one I'd be thrilled to see less of. Kill 'em with love!

  2. I just unfollow when I see anything pointlessly negative. Means I actually missed the whole plagiarism drama this week and had to ask Isa what the heck was going on! xD

I like to see smiles, fun, and passion in my community so that's what I stick to. :)

    1. I DON'T follow the people starting the drama. I see RTs and discussions going on about what was done. In no way do I actively seek this out, yet it's become like an epidemic that I can't escape from.

  3. The biggest thing I've noticed is that the majority of people don't even realize they're being negative. Being negative goes beyond just being whiny or complaining.

    HERE'S TO MOAR POSITIVITY, BITCHES.

    1. Ahahaha! YES! MOAR POSITIVITY!

Yes, it's very true that many MANY people don't seem to realize that they're being negative. We will fight back the cloud of negativity with pictures of PUPPIES and MINOTAURS! (maybe not that last one) I will tell Twitter about my ball handling skills. (of the meatball variety)

      LET'S DO THIS!

  4. Yeah, I try to cultivate drama-free, slightly oblivious zone. I don't have the energy for nonsense. And, truly, there are few things better than listening to / reading something by someone who is passionate about the thing they love. That's as invigorating as negativity is draining.

    1. Ok... here's some positivity... I'm currently reading CarniePunk. This is an amazing anthology of greatness from some very talented writers. There are some writers in this group that I haven't read yet, and some that I am very familiar with. Some of the ones that I haven't previously read are being added to my TBR list. So far there are some stories I love and some that have made me cringe... but the fact that I may not be comfortable with some of the stories isn't lessoning the reading experience. I applaud authors who make me cringe. They've made me feel and even if it's a feeling that isn't comfortable, they've done their job. I may not seek out additional books by them (not because of their talent but because the genre that they write just isn't my thing) but I appreciate the writing that they've done and bow to their ability to evoke that kind of emotion. Good or bad, comfortable or not so much. It's all good ;)

    2. It's hard to avoid the negativity when it's so darn rampant, isn't it?

    3. Part of me wants to read CarniePunk and part of me is afraid there are going to be CLOWNS in it. =/

Awesome positivity, Shirley! BRING IT ON!

  6. My positivity for today....I'm sitting here at my workspace looking at 9 print books that I am dying to read...3 by Maya Banks, 1 by Lindsey Piper, 1 by Tessa Adams, 2 by Cora Carmack, and 2 by Rebecca Zanetti. AND I am in the middle of SPRING TRAINING by Parker Kincade...and LOVING all the gorgeous smexy times in it (AND it was a Top Off Tuesday book so when I set it aside to do some work, I can still gaze lovingly at that gorgeous cover....it's a total WIN-WIN!) I love books! smiles.....
