Synopsis (Goodreads):
Her Body is His Canvas

A darkly possessive relationship has left Uma alone and on the run. Beneath her drab clothing, she hides a terrible secret—proof of her abuse, tattooed onto her skin in a lurid reminder of everything she’s survived.

Caught between a brutal past and an uncertain future, Uma’s reluctant to bare herself to anyone…much less a rough ex-con whose rage drives him in ways she will never understand. But beneath his frightening exterior, Ivan is gentle. Warm. Compassionate. And just as determined to heal Uma’s broken heart as he is to destroy the monster who left his mark scrawled across the delicate tapestry of her skin.
Thoughts on Under Her Skin: Wow. This book, man. This book. It made me all emotional and stuff. Between Uma's self-hatred over what she'd been powerless to stop and Ivan's desire to reach out to her in any way he could, I was a goner. Heck, even Mrs. Lloyd's issues made me misty. And she was a ROUGH character to like at first.

But I did. I liked them all. I liked how Uma forged forward despite her fears. I like how Ivan had the patience to let her come to him when she was ready. I just REALLY liked them together. They were both messed up and a little damaged, but they fit each other so well. SO PERFECTLY WELL.

As a word of warning, what was done to Uma is not pretty. Her emotions are raw and painful and it took a lot for her to reach any sort of level of acceptance in what she suffered through. Maybe the worst part was how she couldn't escape the reminders of her past because it was inked onto her skin every time she looked.

Painful and beautiful, all at the same time. I'm eyeballing the rest of the series now because WOW. So good.
