Synopsis (Goodreads):
Miriell, a powerful empathic priestess, has been kidnapped from her own primitive planet along with a number of her people, and sold to the evil Amarotu Combine, largest organized crime syndicate in the Sectors. When she and her handler are sent to use her power to commit an assassination, she must leave behind her own sister as hostage to ensure her compliance. Miriell cannot ask for aid without endangering herself and others.Thoughts on Danger in the Stars: A do love a good sci-fi romance with danger, high stakes, and love found in unexpected places. In this case, the high stakes are Miriell and Conor's lives, the danger is EVERYWHERE, and the love is smokin'.
Despite his best efforts, Combine enforcer Conor Stewart is entranced by Miriell, and helps her evade the worst of brutal treatment from the rest of the mob. But Conor must keep his distance, before the lovely empath learns that he has secrets of his own–secrets that could get them both killed.
The situation becomes dire when Conor and Miriell come to the attention of both the Combine overlords and the deadly Mawreg, aliens who threaten the Sectors. Can she save herself and the Mawreg’s next victims? And will Conor help her, or remain loyal to his evil bosses?
Miriell is one of the psychics stolen from her planet and held captive by the deadly group known as the Amarotu Combine. Forced to do terrible things with her power, the only thing that keeps her going is the thought that one day she would have her revenge on her her captors. Since I'm ALL FOR brutal revenge against those who exploit others, I totally got where she was coming from.
On the surface, Conor looks like just another Combine lackey. He's in deep with the Combine and stands as second in command to a leader on her way up in the organization. BUT...all isn't as it seems and Conor and Miriell forge a connection. Which I approve of. Sexy connections in dangerous situations are excellent.
Very bad aliens, political maneuverings, and a priestess who can do unbelievable things when properly motivated. I love these Sectors SF men and women. They fight and love harder than most because they never know when the bad guys will try to take everything they care about away from them.
