Synopsis (Goodreads):
The Battle for Earth has begun.

Victoria’s dreams of a cozy life as a small-town doctor come crashing down when the monstrous Kryptids make first contact. The alien invaders have only one goal: to turn Earth into a breeding ground. As she fights to protect her patients in their makeshift hospital, an even more fearsome alien and his beast enter the fray. She should be terrified of the male ominously named Doom. But she’s mesmerized.

As a genetically engineered war machine, Doom lives for a single purpose: eradicating the Kryptids. Coming to Earth with his brothers to save the humans should be a straightforward matter. But years of bloody battles throughout the galaxy have not prepared him for the fiery Victoria. Enchanted by the courage of that wisp of a woman, Doom offers her his protection and that of his fearless war beast, Stran, as she attempts to rescue other wounded humans. After disaster strikes their homeworld, the Xian Warriors now also face extinction.

Will the Kryptids finally defeat their only real threat, or will the delicate human that has stolen both of Doom’s hearts also be the Warriors’ seed of hope?
Thoughts on Doom: I originally read this story as part of the PISA (I feel like I should throw an extra "anthology" in there to make things clear but the PISAnthology anthology sounds too funny. HAHA. Yes, I make myself laugh.) and I loooooved going back to the beginning and seeing how things started between the Xian Warriors and their humans. Sure, sure, it's bloody and brutal and some very bad things happen, but it was fun/illuminating to see the first Xian Warrior meet his soulmate.

(On the downside, the abduction of the early soulcatchers which leads to the births of some of the later half-breed heroes is...pretty darn heartbreaking. While something good ultimately came out of it, it is hard knowing what's in store for those women.)

So. Doom and Victoria. He's the first of the warriors to find his special someone (but not the last!) and it happens at a kinda weirdly inconvenient time. Inconvenient because as a species that hasn't had much contact with aliens, the humans aren't aware of all the perks that come with being a Xian Warrior and Victoria has to go through some intense heartache before the truth is revealed.

On the plus side, Earth is saved (with some heavy damage taken, but still!), the Xian Warriors begin their long standing relationship with their human soulcatchers, and a new generation has begun (that part takes a while). The war against the General might just be starting (for the humans, at least), but the pieces are being put in place to end his tyranny in the future.

Man, I liked this one!
