Synopsis (Goodreads):
Dr. Evangeline Parr lost it all when the Xathi attacked Fraga.
When she's asked to establish a clinic in the devastated town of Einhiv, she jumps at the chance to help.

The only problem? A smart ass, joking Skotan warrior. He's a terrible patient. Impossible. Refuses to take anything seriously.

Until they're caught in an explosive situation, and a new side of him emerges.

Protective. Efficient.

And very intriguing.

Sakev joined the Skotan fleet after an... unusual career.
The ghosts of his past have mostly subsided against the ongoing struggle to keep up with the Xathi attacks and their new hybrid weapons.

Mostly.

He never expected a tiny human female to break through his carefully constructed facade.

But his past pales against the mystery of the war they're fighting. And when the enemy changes yet again, keeping Evie safe becomes more than just another mission.

It's the only mission he cares about.
Thoughts on Sakev: I'm going to start this by saying I am enjoying these books. BUT...Sakev's astounding lack of impulse control in fraught situations drove me batty. Like, he put his team AND Evie's lives in danger on more than one occasion simply because he wanted to do something and went ahead and did it without considering how it might affect others.

*blink, blink* *blink*

Dude. No. Putting yourself in danger is one thing. I mean, if you're going to be a bonehead and rush into situations without covering your flank...I guess that's cool. But when you endanger your teammates and the person entrusted to you for protection...not cool.

That said, Evie uncovered more facets of the Xathi invasion AND found a potential new ally, so I was into that. Sakev did eventually act a little more carefully and he pulled his weight when things went south. The alien crew are finding mates to balance them out, which is a good, but they're also still trying to get home and I'm not sure how that's going to work for those who have paired up. To be fair, though, there's plenty of time to deal with that. First they have to defeat the bad guys and figure out how to get their ship spaceworthy again and that's not going to be happening anytime soon, right?

Anyway. Onto the next.
