Synopsis (Goodreads):
Dominic was staring at me like he couldn’t decide whether to chop me into pieces or pull my hair and French kiss me.

Dominic
I got her fired. Okay, so I’d had a bad day and took it out on a bystander in a pizza shop. But there’s nothing innocent about Ally Morales. She proves that her first day of her new job… in my office… after being hired by my mother.

So maybe her colorful, annoying, inexplicably alluring personality brightens up the magazine’s offices that have felt like a prison for the past year. Maybe I like that she argues with me in front of the editorial staff. And maybe my after-hours fantasies are haunted by those brown eyes and that sharp tongue.

But that doesn’t mean that I’m going to be the next Russo man to take advantage of his position. I might be a second-generation asshole, but I am not my father.

She’s working herself to death at half a dozen dead-end jobs for some secret reason she doesn’t feel like sharing with me. And I’m going to fix it all. Don’t accuse me of caring. She’s nothing more than a puzzle to be solved. If I can get her to quit, I can finally peel away all those layers. Then I can go back to salvaging the family name and forget all about the dancing, beer-slinging brunette.

Ally
Ha. Hold my beer, Grumpy Grump Face.

Author’s Note: A steamy, swoony workplace romantic comedy with a grumpy boss hero determined to save the day and a plucky heroine who is starting to wonder if there might actually be a beating heart just beneath her boss’s sexy vests.
Thoughts on By a Thread: Grumpy, snarly heroes who happen to be the boss man and who are trying painfully hard to do the right thing are my weakness, apparently. Snappy, sassy heroines who don't let our snarly heroes get away with being jerks are my other weakness. GUESS WHAT WE HAVE HERE, PEOPLE??? That's right! The perfect recipe for snarling, sassy gloriousness!

Dominic acts like a flat-out entitled jerk the first time he meets Ally. And she doesn't let him get away with it without speaking up. Which makes their first interaction as boss-man/employee absolutely wonderful. Because she's not intimidated by him (like everyone else in the company) and she's not afraid to point out when his snappishness crosses the line.

The thing is that Dominic isn't the iceman everybody thinks he is. He's a man on the edge of breaking and Ally was unlucky enough to push his buttons the first day they met. The good news is she doesn't stop pushing them. She's a little too loud, a little too sassy, and a little too vibrant for him to ignore her. Plus, he has that whole simmering attraction thing going for her and he couldn't ignore her if he tried. Which he did. Repeatedly.

While Dom is a man on the edge, Ally has her own problems to deal with. Mainly revolving around money and her need to take care of her family. She's not going to let some entitled dude who doesn't know when to stop pushing force her into walking away from the best dang job that's happened to her lately. So she pushes back. And pushes. And pushes. Until they're both so tangled up in one another they just have to take the plunge into coupledom.

Seriously, grumpy dudes and the women who challenge them are my thing, I guess. I LIKED these two fighting and making up ridiculous amounts. RIDICULOUS AMOUNTS. *draws glittery hearts around them*
