Synopsis (Goodreads):
In a broken galaxy, how can he fight for a freedom he’s never known?

Sold as a child into hardrock mining, Gavyn Grey digs for qubition—the rare, volatile mineral that opens wormhole passage between the stars. On the moon of Ydro-Down, where Q veins run too deep, the indentured miners have a choice: keep digging their own graves or risk revolt against their corporate overlord. Now a reluctant rebel, Gavyn must lead them into hell itself.

But an unwanted intruder is watching his every move.

Yumi Swinton was hired to increase Q production and instead finds the ruthless QueCorp subjugating the miners. She was promised a chance to save what remains of the galaxy after the Oblivion Wars, yet here she is destroying a world, stone by stone.

After decades of desperation, Gavyn knows not to trust anyone. But Yumi has skills his faltering revolution needs…and secrets he’s determined to uncover. There are dangers in getting too close to anyone around the treasured qubition, but trusting each other might be their only hope of survival on the Obsidian Rim.
Thoughts on Rock Rift: Hoo-boy. Gavyn and Yumi. They're...kind of working toward similar end goals, but for vastly different reasons. I say kind of because they're both trying to end QueCorp's stranglehold on Yrdo-Down, but Gavyn's fighting to give him and his fellow miners a free home of their own while Yumi is just planning on, well, blowing stuff up.

Because if there's no place to mine the Q, QueCorp loses.

Unfortunately, that will mean the miners also lose. But Yumi has years of fanatical indoctrination behind her and she's not so quick to abandon her mission even when she sees something worth fighting for with Gavyn and the others.

BUT...she's also not nearly as mindless as she thinks she is. She sees the subjugation the miners are going through and she sees how QueCorp uses them up for profit. She also sees how Gavyn carves out hope for them a slice at a time. She might believe that hope is pointless in the beginning, but his pragmatism in the face of overwhelming odds starts to worm under her skin.

Elsa Jade's books tend to work for me on a lot of levels and this one was no exception. Gavyn and Yumi are facing terrible odds and things could (quite literally) blow up in their faces at any moment. Yet they connect and somehow find common ground and YESSSSS. Like. Like hard!
