Synopsis (Goodreads):
Told from the perspective of Dr. Mensah, the events of "Home: Habitat, Range, Niche, Territory" occurs just after the fourth novella, Exit Strategy.Thoughts on Home: Habitat, Range, Niche, Territory: A short story that gives us a chance to get into Dr. Mensah's head after Murderbot risked itself to save her from the hostage situation on TranRollinHyfa. Quite frankly, she's a mess and she's trying desperately to hide it from everyone around her. That said, Murderbot sees right through her false proclamations of being okay when everyone else takes her word for it. Possibly that's because Murderbot knows what it's like to be nothing more than a bargaining cog in the machinery of endless corporate greed.
Which is something Mensah actually thinks about, so don't go thinking I'm being all deep or anything.
Anywho. We get a glimpse into Mensah's thought process and she's just as gentle and kind and concerned about the rogue SecUnit as she seems to be. Which is probably deeply confusing to Murderbot who isn't used to anyone caring about it. By that same token, Murderbot's somewhat off-kilter sense of humor keeps Mensah centered when she's dealing with her PTSD triggers.
Dang, these individuals have a lot to deal with. Super *thumbs up* all around.
