Review: Otherkin series by Anya Bast

Fury (Otherkin #1)
Synopsis (Goodreads):
Nikki is a cougar shifter living in a werewolf world. When she's promised as a mate to a wolf shifter named Merrick, the fur flies.
My Thoughts: This was definitely a naughty little read.  Even though it's short, it brings the hot.  My biggest complaint (and, no, it's not the length of the story, I think that worked quite well) is use of the word "labia".  Okay.  I know that it's the correct terminology for certain lady parts but it's one of those words that makes me twitch.  The word is not one that puts sexy thoughts in my head.  If I overlook that word, I'm all over the story.  All over it.  Like... fur.  Fur on a wolf.  Boo-yah!

Tranquility(Otherkin #2)
Synopsis (Goodreads):
Roane leaves the Fury werewolf pack to make room for the new alpha. He settles in a town called Tranquility and immediately raises the hackles of the local pack leader. Things get worse when Roane sees Scarlet, the pack leader's sister, and will do anything to possess her.
My Thoughts: I know that I shouldn't fixate on one word but I was so relieved that "labia" got less airtime in this story.  Yes, I'm a dork.  I'm aware of this.  So.  Roane.  He's big.  He's bad.  He's got the Alpha vibe.  He's got the hots for Scarlet.  They jump in the sack.  It's naughty.  It's fun.  It's ... you know what?  I liked this story a lot.  It worked for me.  Big strong Alpha male trying to hide from his desires.  Yeah, that's my type of story.

Final thoughts: Interesting world. I liked the characters. My biggest complaint is an issue that probably won't bother most people.  What can I say?  I'm kinda freaky about word choices.  Especially word choices that are supposed to conjure up sexy mental pictures.  So, yeah.  There you go.

  2. labia labia labia labia.

    Um...

For something that is supposed to be sexy, the word labia is a clinical term. Even lady parts would have been better. ;)

  6. Amanda: I know, right?!?! I would have used "lady parts". And "dangly man parts". Hahahaha! Dangly man parts. There's nothing better than those.
