Review: Merrick's Destiny (Bloodhounds #1.5) by Moira Rogers

Synopsis (Goodreads):
Merrick Wood is a wild man--literally. For six decades he's stalked the Rocky Mountains as a bloodhound, fighting a losing battle against the vampires who have taken over most of the American frontier. He's sure he's seen it all, until an airship crash leaves him caught behind enemy lines with a concussion and a mate he doesn't remember taking.

Paralee Colton is a wild woman. She enjoys her freedom and makes a good living flying over the Deadlands. Until, that is, bloodsuckers shoot down her ship, and she's forced to deal with an irritatingly attractive man who isn't a man at all.

Trapped together in the wilderness, Merrick and Paralee must fight to find a safe camp before the new moon drags Merrick into three days of sexual madness. But as enticing as Paralee finds the bloodhound, she doesn't realize the stakes of their courtship game.

Getting out of the Deadlands is only half of Merrick's battle for survival. If he can't convince Paralee to stay with him, he'll follow the footsteps of every bloodhound who's ever lost a mate--straight into the grave.
My Thoughts: I've been in love with this series since I first saw the cover for Wilder's Mate. Yes, that was well before I ever read the book. I was hooked, fascinated, intrigued by Wilder's feral look. Throw in steampunk elements (I do love me some steampunk, you know) and wicked-cool shapeshifters and I was an absolute goner.

This time around, we're given one of the first Bloodhounds, an airship, and a spunky pilot. Oh! And they're stranded out in the Deadlands ALL ALONE! *swoon* You guys know how I love when the two main characters are forced to spend quality time together when they don't really know one another, right? True effing story. I love that. And amnesia! *double swoon* Merrick took a good crack to the skull and doesn't remember much of anything and leading up to how he ended up stranded with his pretty lady friend. Seriously, it was AWESOME!

The story was a very fun romp through the Bloodhounds universe. Merrick never expected to find a mate and Paralee has no clue what being mated to a Bloodhound means until Merrick spells it out for her. She's sensible and strong, he needs to keep her safe for his own sanity.

If you haven't given this series a try yet, I highly *highly* recommend it. Start here. Start with Wilder's story. Start where ever your little heart desires. Just start it. Because it rocks my socks off.
