Synopsis (Goodreads):
Months after moving to the mysterious city of Cognito, Silver is developing her gifts as a Mage, and learning how to live under new laws. Forced to give up her old life, she must now live in secret among the humans. She finally has hope of leading an ordinary life . . . until Logan Cross walks into it.My Thoughts: I'm very, very, very smitten with the world Dannika Dark has created here. It's a world that fits the story perfectly. It's dark and brutal and yet it has this core of beauty in it all at the same time. Silver has the potential to do such good and there's so much for her to experience in this new life, yet this ugly underbelly keeps busting in and sticking their dirty fingers where they aren't wanted.
Their chance meeting leads her close to discovering the identity of the nameless Mage who once stole her light and discovered the unique power she possesses. That knowledge poses an unimaginable threat to Silver, fueling her search to find out who he is, before he finds her first.
Lives are at stake. Truths are revealed. And an unexpected passion ignites.
I was iffy on another man being introduced into Silver's story. I *liked* the ones already there and I thought "why does she need anyone else?" Well, I'm pleased to say that Logan Cross won me over BIG TIME. He's dark and deadly and somehow I think he's just what she needs to find her footing in this world.
Silver herself still does things that make me question where she's coming from. I get her need to find out who was behind her captivity in book 1 but it felt like she took unnecessary risks at times to get answers. On the other hand, she's staying true to character. She isn't going to sit back and do nothing when there's something to be done. She's willing to take risks to get the answers she needs. I admire that drive, I just didn't always agree with the secrecy she shrouded her actions in.
The cast of characters is fabulous (Knox made me melt a little), the introduction of Logan's race expanded the already impressive world, and Finn and his ilk intrigue me. Those who can appreciate excellent world building and like something a little off the beaten path will enjoy this series. As I said, I am SMITTEN with it.

*blinks* How many men are there, exactly?
ReplyDeleteA ... few. It's not all romantic, though. They each fulfill a different aspect of her life. She has the father figure. The mage who accepts her for what she is. The possible love interest from before. And Logan- the sexy beast.
DeleteI feel like I need a Knox in my life. I mean, I don't know him but he sounds swoon worthy :)
ReplyDeleteHe's totally a bad ass and then he meets Silver's BFF and he just *knows* that she's the one he wants to be with. I kinda loved it!
