Review: Two Ravens and One Crow by Kevin Hearne

Two Ravens and One Crow (The Iron Druid Chronicles #4.5) by Kevin Hearne
Synopsis (Goodreads):
Atticus O’Sullivan is back in an all-new, action-packed, laugh-out-loud novella from the author of The Iron Druid Chronicles. Two-thousand-year-old Atticus may have outwitted and outfought everyone from Odin to Bacchus, but in this eBook original, he’s about to discover what comes around when you go around messing with gods.

Six years into the training of his beautiful apprentice, Granuaile, a large crow swoops down and transforms into none other than the Morrigan, a goddess who insists that Atticus come with her at once. He must leave his apprentice behind, along with his Irish wolfhound, Oberon—and he must also leave his sword. The Morrigan has always taken extreme pleasure in pronouncing the Druid’s mortal danger and imminent doom, so the fact that she won’t reveal the purpose of their journey makes him very nervous. Of course, any time the Celtic Chooser of the Slain drops in unannounced, it’s never good. When she does let slip that she’ll be saving his life in the near future, Atticus is left to wonder . . . will he soon be giving his legions of enemies something to crow about?
My Thoughts: Atticus is pretty much my absolute favorite #NakedDruid in the history of #NakedDruids. He's snarky. He gets unintentionally turned on by scary goddesses at really inconvenient moments. He has a thing for Granuaile that he refuses to acknowledge. He loves his dog. HE LOVES HIS DOG. 'Nuff said.

This was a cool little story that takes place halfway through Granuaile's training. While neither Oberon nor Granuaile have a large part, they both steal the show in their own ways when they're on page. Granuaile is dedicated to her training and she's figure out the not-so-clever ways that Atticus deals with her lovely self in tight workout clothes. Oberon is... well, he's Oberon. He's a loyal, meat-loving dog who makes me laugh like mad.

We get Gods and incorporeal beasts, honorable agreements made over wine, and a kinda awesome chase/fight scene. Atticus never goes *looking* for trouble, but he always rises to the occasion when it finds him.

Also, the #NakedDruid count was high in this book. Not that I keep track of those things.

  1. I liked this one since we learn some history on a few things about him. Well, I liked all of them, but to me this was the meatiest short one I've read so far. Still need to read Grimoire though.

    1. This one was good. I liked that we get to fill in some of the blanks from the 12 year gap between books 4 & 5. Grimoire is pretty awesome, too. You know what? I'm predisposed to like all books about Atticus. I can't help myself.
