Synopsis (Goodreads):
Homicide detective Kara Gillian has a special talent: she can sense the "arcane" in our world, and there's quite a bit of it, even in Beaulac, Louisiana. She's also a summoner of demons, and works on a task force that deals with supernatural crimes. Her partners are attractive and smart FBI agents, but they're not summoners, and they're not telling Kara why they are on this special force with her.

To make things worse, Kara has pledged herself to one of the most powerful of demons-a Demon Lord-who helped save her partner's life, but now expects things in return. Meanwhile, she's trying to solve a string of murders that are somehow tied together by money, sex, rock music and...mud. But how can she concentrate on the case when she's not even sure who-or what-her partners are?
Thoughts on Secrets of the Demon: It's been a while since I visited Kara's world and I'm kinda kicking myself now for letting it linger on my bookshelf for so long. Because this book hit the spot for me. It has a high-level, sexy-as-hell demonic lord who confuses the ever lovin' crap out of me because I keep expecting the other shoe to drop when he's around. He's planning things, people. I CAN FEEL IT.

Or possibly, he just wants to keep getting into Kara's pants. I don't know.

Then there's Ryan and his secrets. Not to mention the other FBI agents. They're all *something* outside the norm -- as Kara herself is -- and I'm not sure what to think of any of them. Honestly, I do kind of dig Marco. He's fun. Oh, and Zack. I'd like more of those two. Just throw them in some dire, danger-laden scenario and see what comes of it.

But let's get back to Kara, shall we? (Come to think of it, were we ever with Kara in this review other than when Rhyzkahl was getting in her pants? No. So let's just get TO her. Okay? Okay.) I'm torn between thinking Kara's doing a great job handling things and thinking "Oh, crap, there are things going on here you SO don't know about." Her deal with Rhyzkahl is a prime example of this. He wants something. Information? The thrill of giving in to his summoner? I don't know. (Although I am sort of leaning more toward the first one. I'm sure the boning is fun and all that but he seems like a demon with a plan.)

The mystery is pretty solid (death! mayhem! blobby earth monsters!) and I love that Kara has people she works with who are willing to open their minds to what she's up against. I'm just waiting for the big reveal where everything comes crashing down on poor Kara. Those secrets people think they're hiding never stay hidden and with Kara's luck, she'll end up smack-dab in the middle of the crazy when it explodes.

I'm down with that!
