Synopsis (Goodreads):
No one ruffled Cisnetta Fowler’s feathers like Major Atrates Geswin, the infamous Ugly Dukeling. Her first glimpse of the handsome alien hybrid had her dismissing his crass moniker, until his abrasive attitude proved the gossip to be true. He was an arse, but an arse that she both needed and wanted. Thankfully, Cisnetta was one tough bird who never turned-tail and ran.

Major Atrates Geswin, second-in-line to the Andrake dukedom, found himself locked in a skirmish with an astounding woman. Cisnetta Fowler handled his insults as if he passed her fluffy ducklings. But rather than softening him, she inflamed his Otar-alien side, spurring him to seize, to demand, to want… All that stood between his victorious claiming of her was a vicious, pet swan with a neck-wringing fetish.

As far as Atrates was concerned, Cisnetta was his for the taking.
Thoughts on The Ugly Dukeling: Oh, I liked this one. A powerful man who's internalized all the abuse his father has thrown at him for being a hybrid and a woman who chooses to see more than the surface and who gently guides said man into accepting himself with her own acceptance. GOOD STUFF.

Atrates is...he's kind of like an unsocialized animal when he first crosses paths with Cisnetta. He grumps and snarls and is not good with social cues. He also dislikes this failing in himself and that makes him even grumpier. Fortunately for him, Ciss sees straight through all his snarling and broodiness and gives him kindness in return.

Which confuses the poor guy. He's used to being a freak (or a stepping stone for societal gain) and he has no idea how to categorize her when she doesn't treat him as one.

As for Ciss, she really does see him. Not the obvious physical differences that set him apart, but how his father chipped away at his sense of self until he lashes out as a protective measure.

MAN, I like snarly alien dudes. And I LOVE the moment their walls come tumbling down when they realize their special someone isn't going to cut and run and leave them on their own. *thumbs up*
