Synopsis (Goodreads):
For centuries, Taliyah Skyhawk has prepared to become Harpy General, leader of the deadliest female army in existence. One of the requirements? Remain a virgin. But, for a chance to save her people, she must wed the fearless leader of the Astra Planeta, Alaroc Phaethon.

The time has come for Roc to sacrifice another virgin bride to his god. There has never been a woman alluring enough to tempt him from his path. No warrioress powerful enough to overcome his incredible strength. No enchantress desirable enough to make him burn beyond reason. Until now.

With the clock ticking, war between husband and wife ignites. Except Taliyah never expected the merciless king to challenge the future she once envisioned. She certainly never anticipated the thrill of their battles turning into games... The problem is, only one spouse can survive.

Love is a battlefield in Showalter's The Warlord.
Thoughts on The Warlord: Hoo-boy. Taliyah and Roc are...well, Taliyah's a harpy and we all know how wild harpies can get, right? She's bloodthirsty and chaotic and very, very determined once she sets her sights on something. Or someone. And this time she's set her sights on Roc. Of course, she expects to utterly defeat Roc at whatever game he's playing and she plays as dirty as she needs to play to win.

Roc, on the other hand, is like an unmovable object. Or so he thinks. He's a warlord and a warrior and he won't stray from the path he's set for himself because failure is not an option. Except Taliyah is unlike any of the other brides he's ever interacted with. She refuses to accept defeat and keeps fighting no matter how stacked the odds are against her. The more time he spends with her, the more he likes her and *that's" not part of his plan AT ALL.

Harpies, amirite?!?!

Gods, monsters, warlords, blessings, curses, and a harpy who doesn't know when to quit. We get some steam, a lot of heat, some sexy times in public places, and a couple who are at their best when they're engaging in some verbal foreplay. We also get to see a few familiar faces (understandable since Taliyah's sisters are entwined with the Lords and angels) and a whole lot of fighting. Yesssss.
