Synopsis (Goodreads):
Rex "TW" McMurtry’s perpetual single-hood wouldn't bother him so much if all his ex-girlfriends didn't keep marrying the very next person they dated, especially when so many of those grooms are his closest friends. He may be a pro-football defensive end for the Chicago Squalls, but the press only wants to talk about how he's always a groomsman and never a groom. Rex is sick of being the guy before the husband, and he’s most definitely sick of being the best man at all their weddings.Thoughts on Homecoming King: Okay. Let's talk about Rex and Abby because I liiiiike these two together. (To be fair, I tend to like ALL PR's couples, so this isn't necessarily a shock or anything, but I REALLY liked them. Really. So much.) He's a pro athlete who's very good at being the starter boyfriend (I'm simplifying things here, so go with it). Which is leaves him a little lonely, as you might imagine.
Bartender Abigail McNerny is the gal-pal, the wing-woman, the she-BFF. She's dated. Once. And once was more than enough. Privy to all the sad stories of her customers, ‘contentment over commitment’ is her motto, and Abby is convinced no one on earth could ever entice her into a romantic relationship . . . except that one guy she’s loved since preschool.
The guy who just walked into her bar.
The guy who doesn’t recognize her.
The guy who is drunk and needs a ride home.
The guy who has a proposition she should definitely refuse.
Abby's the bartender who had a HARDCORE crush on Rex in high school. No wait. I mistyped. She HAS a hardcore crush on Rex still. Unfortunately for her, her crush doesn't die a painful death when she starts spending time with him (as she fervently hopes). In fact, it only gets bigger. Because real-world Rex is everything she didn't know she wanted in a guy.
The downside? Abby has baggage. A previous marriage that taught her a few painful lessons are the biggest of said baggage. She's not looking for love or anything relationshippy and yet Rex pushes all her happy buttons. Marrying him and pretending to be the happy wife? Yes, she can probably do it without engaging her heart. She just has to make sure she treats it like a employer/employee relationship.
HAHAHA. Good luck with that, Abby. Rex might be brooding and tight-lipped, but he works for her on pretty much every level. Which means it doesn't take long before the two of them are so tangled up in one another it's GLORIOUS. *thumbs up*
