Synopsis (Goodreads):
Former trapeze artist Amalie Vaughn moved to Burning Cove to reinvent herself, but things are not going well. After spending her entire inheritance on a mansion with the intention of turning it into a bed-and-breakfast, she learns too late that the villa is said to be cursed. When the first guest, Dr. Norman Pickwell, is murdered by his robot invention during a sold-out demonstration, rumors circulate that the curse is real.

In the chaotic aftermath of the spectacle, Amalie watches as a stranger from the audience disappears behind the curtain. When Matthias Jones reappears, he is slipping a gun into a concealed holster. It looks like the gossip that is swirling around him is true—Matthias evidently does have connections to the criminal underworld.

Matthias is on the trail of a groundbreaking prototype cipher machine. He suspects that Pickwell stole the device and planned to sell it. But now Pickwell is dead and the machine has vanished. When Matthias’s investigation leads him to Amalie’s front door, the attraction between them is intense, but she knows it is also dangerous. Amalie and Matthias must decide if they can trust each other and the passion that binds them, because time is running out.
Thoughts on Tightrope: No lie, I've been waiting to see if the Jones family would show up in Burning Cove and would you look at this? One Matthias Jones has done just that. He has a little of that Jones talent and a whole lot of baggage and I AM HERE FOR IT!

But before Jones puts in an appearance, there's a little case of attempted murder (against Amalie) and a little case of actual murder (witnessed by Amalie wherein she gets her first glimpse of the mysterious Matthias Jones). Throw in a murderous robot, an aging actor, and a slew of potentially suspicious characters and there's a whole lot going on as Amalie and Matthias work on getting to know one another. (To be fair, Amalie 100% figured Matthias to be a shady dude with serious underworld ties for a while, so that sort of made their getting to know one another thing a little awkward in the best sort of way.)

Meanwhile, Matthias is putting his talent to use in a way that feels right to him. His probable mobster ties along with said talent make meeting a nice lady and settling down seem like a pipe dream, so he's resigned himself to being alone. Amalie is intriguing because she's not worried about his ability (after all, once a person is almost murdered in a spectacular fashion, it's hard to rattle them with mundane things like a little psychic ability), but it takes a while for her to see that there's a little more to Matthias than meets the eye. I'm not talking about the psychic thing, either.

A little danger, a little sneaking around, found family, dramatic movie stars, and a fair amount of steam.  I've been enjoying my time in Burning Cove and want more!
