Synopsis (Goodreads):
Legends can be dangerous, just ask Sariana Dayne. She sets out to hire one and wakes up married to him. It’s a marriage of infuriating inconvenience as far as Sariana is concerned.Thoughts on Shield's Lady: On this colony, we have a highly educated woman looking to make her mark in a place far from her home and a man who is a little more than most men. Which sounds kinda dirty, but it's more like Gryph has a hunter's instinct the ability to find crystal that most men can't. Which puts him in a class all his own. One that Sariana can't quite figure out at first.
Gryph Chassyn stirs all her senses but he’s one of the mysterious mercenaries known as Shields. Sensible women do not marry such men. But for Gryph, marrying Sariana is a matter of honor, passion and survival. He needs her in ways she cannot even imagine.
Before Sariana can find a way to escape the bond that has been forged between them, she and Gryph are caught up in a desperate quest to save their world. The future looks a little different but some things, like love and passion, and murder never change.
Which, in itself, puts her in a somewhat awkward position in her first (and second and third) encounter with Gryph. You know, since she doesn't know the legends behind the Shields or what they're capable of. And she DEFINITELY doesn't know about the pact between the 1st generation colonists and the Shields.
Let's just say that Gryph is unlike any man Sariana's met before, but she is more than a match for him. In more ways than one.
On Gryph's end, he's not about to let a woman who matches him on a genetic level slip through his fingers. Beyond that, however, he's completely captivated by Sariana and how she doesn't back down from things that matter to her. Sure, it's maybe a little infuriating, but he admires how she's willing to go toe-to-toe with him time and time again.
A little danger (actually, kind of a lot of danger), more than a few steamy encounters, a man who refuses to back down when he meets the woman he wants, and a woman who's up to the challenge of forcing an entire class of people to change so they have a chance of thriving. *thumbs up*
