Synopsis (Goodreads):
EDGED BY A MONSTER—sounds tortuous, right?Thoughts on Edged by the Erlking: We met Sera (and saw her go through her monstrous metamorphosis) in Fern's book. We also saw her get kidnapped by Ender, although he did it for the best reasons. Sort of. Let's just say that Sera and Ender had a bit of an adversarial relationship and Ender didn't think Sera would come willingly. And since she needed to learn how to control her abilities, he took the most straightforward route and just brought her into The Veil.
And this particular beast takes me to the brink of my sanity, only to pull back at the last second. He swears it’s to help me, but I know the truth—the Erlking wants to make me miserable.
Why else would the monstrous man kidnap me, steal me away from Earth, and force me to learn how to be the very thing I despise?
Ugh, the nerve of him—and don’t even get me started on how he teases me.
Enticing me.
Exciting me.
Enraging me.
But all is not well in The Veil. Turns out the Erlking is hiding more than just his evil plan to torment me, and I’m going to find out what’s going on.
Will I beat Ender at his own game, or will I swallow my pride so I can experience the pleasure he taunts me with?
To say Sera was not pleased with this might be an understatement. That said, for all her anger and bluster, she did need to learn about her new powers and she could grudgingly admit that Ender might be able to teach her. Then she found out about the instability in The Veil and suddenly things took a turn.
On Ender's end, he's determined to teach Sera about her abilities, but otherwise keep his distance. Which is easier said than done. The more time he spends with her, the more he connects with her and the more he knows he needs to keep his distance.
But Sera isn't one to stand by idly when things are happening. Soon the two are racing against time to save a dying world and all the souls within it.
A little danger, more than a little baggage when it comes to their respective pasts, closure, balance, powerful abilities, a dark lord who is wildly protective, and a woman who needs to come to terms with everything she's capable of. *thumbs up*
