Synopsis (Goodreads):
It was supposed to be a straightforward assignment. Mavrel Yrixis had traveled to Earth to assist his boss, former High Commander Jerik Garul, in meeting his biologically determined mate.Thoughts on A Delicate Conquest: Mavrel used his technological expertise to help locate Jerik's biological match. He made it through the attempted abduction perpetuated by Clarissa's employer (and by "made it through" I mean he didn't cause any sort of ruckus while the mercenaries hired to hold them did their thing. To be fair, he also didn't end them. Which he could have. So, you know, he basically just hung out for a while making pithy observations and leaving a bit of an impression [of the good sort] on Bea) and now he's...well, he sort of dealing with the Mating Fever.
With the exception of a few minor human-related incidents, the mission had gone to plan. Jerik found his mate—with the assistance of Mavrel's extensive technological expertise.
Mavrel never expected he would encounter a human who sparked his interest. In the face of difficult circumstances, Bea had charmed him with her confident demeanor, effortless beauty, and a smile as radiant as Earth’s sun.
He can’t stop thinking about her.
Even worse, his Mating Fever has been triggered, and there isn’t a single thing he can do to stop it.
He isn’t ready for this.
He needs to find a way to stop it before it interferes with his plans.
But nature has other ideas, and there’s only so long that one can fight the inevitable, especially when the other party is so infernally tempting—and seemingly willing.
Which is inconvenient, because the big guy isn't ready to meet his match. Or deal with the fever. He has things to do. Important things.
Unfortunately for him, the Mating Fever isn't so easily ignored. Or put off. So thoughts of Bea are VERY MUCH in Mavrel's head. And the fever is prodding at him.
Meanwhile, Bea was impressed by Mavrel's cool demeanor under duress and she can't stop thinking about him, either. So when she receives an invitation to attend a gathering for humans and Kordolians, so accepts. Because why not? The big guy's in her head and she wouldn't mind in the least seeing him again.
A little human/Kordolian interacting, a high-flying party, a few familiar faces, some technological wizardry, setup for the future, an alien male who can't resist the call of his mate, and a human lady who knows a good guy when she meets him. *thumbs up*
