Jacob Kessler has been sent to kill the powerful Sultan of Ruman in retaliation for the attack on the Kiris Air Station. Disguised as a diamond smuggler, he is admitted to the Sultan's Palace. When a woman visits him in the middle of the night, claiming to be sent by the Sultan, he is more than willing to accommodate her demands, never suspecting that her true identity will put them both at risk, and render his mission impossible to complete. My Thoughts: Once again, Morgan Karpiel has written a book that satisfies my desire to read about sex in a steampunk setting! Also, once again, I'm stunned by the amount of emotion Morgan Karpiel can write into a story of this length. My weepy, leaking girl side totally came out IN FORCE while I was reading.
Nadira's life has been dark and lonely. The deception she's been forced into for the past several years has slowly crushed her. She's given up on happiness until Jacob, who is himself deceiving those around him, shows her gentleness. There's something about two people finding one another despite all the odds against them that makes me smile.
This series continues to impress me, both the breadth of the world that Morgan Karpiel has created and the depth of emotion that she can pull from me as I'm reading it. Wonderfully imaginative, this is one world you won't want to leave once you fall into it.
