Review: Moon Called (Mercy Thompson #1) by Patricia Briggs

Synopsis (via Goodreads):
Werewolves can be dangerous if you get in their way, but they'll leave you alone if you are careful. They are very good at hiding their natures from the human population, but I'm not human. I know them when I meet them, and they know me, too.

Mercy Thompson's sexy next-door neighbor is a werewolf.

She's tinkering with a VW bus at her mechanic shop that happens to belong to a vampire.

But then, Mercy Thompson is not exactly normal herself ... and her connection to the world of things that go bump in the night is about to get her into a whole lot of trouble.
My Thoughts: Why did I wait so long to start this series?  It's kinda awesome and there's all this stuff going on and wow.

Where to start?  Hmm.  Well, I kinda love Mercy's down to earth attitude.  She has to work for a living, nothing is handed to her.  She's managed to gain the protection of an Alpha and the respect of a vampire just by being herself.  She has a strong sense of what's right and she's willing to put herself on the line to protect that.

The secondary cast of characters is fabulous as well.  They all feel well-rounded and fully capable of kicking butt.  I like that.  I loved the world-building and the backstory on how the Fae were forced to come out.

The whole darn book tickled my fancy.  I got werewolves, shapeshifters, vampires, fae, witches and bad guys who have an agenda.  I thought this was a great start to a series and I'm going to be all over the next few books.  Just watch me.

  1. So glad you found this series! I don't remember how I came upon the Mercy Thompson books but they are now some of my absolute favorites. I just bought the newest (River Marked) recently and I can't wait to read it!

  2. Even more so AWESOME. I love the series. It's light on the romance which is something I love but there is enough hint to future romance that I kept reading. Not to mention the world, back story, and characters are top notch!!=)
