Review: The Geek Job by Eve Langlais

The Geek Job by Eve Langlais
Synopsis (Goodreads):
Protect the geek, that’s the job she’s been hired for, but little did this shewolf expect to fall for a man of science.

As a werewolf who hires out as a bodyguard, Lexie is paid well to perform dangerous jobs that sometimes involve taking off her clothes. When she takes on the protection of a science geek for a vampire clan, she doesn’t expect her temporary girlfriend status to come with lots of pleasure. But a geeky human who pushes all her right buttons—and plays her body oh so right—isn’t reason enough for her to break the rules and fall in love.

Everything changes after an incident in the lab, but before she can decide if it’s safe to give him her heart, she has to help him survive.
My Thoughts: Eve Langlais knows how to write female characters that don't mind getting down and dirty. They like sex. They like verbally sparring with their men. They like the occasional all-out fight. Her books make me smile because they're so bold and fun. This book is no exception. It was FUN! Even when Lexie was having an attack of conscience about lying to Anthony, she was funny about it - hoping to get in a last night of loving before things fell apart, lamenting how her body was responding in a dire situation.

I think the thing that stood out for me the most is that Lexie uses her body for her job whenever it's required and yet I wasn't squicked out by this. It fit her personality. She's strong, determined, and if she needs to screw her mark to keep him safe, by gum, she'll do it. She enjoys sex. Period. She doesn't have any hangups about it and she doesn't expect that a weekend tangling the sheets with someone she's supposed to be protecting will lead to anything more. Until she meets her giant, lovable geek, that is.

I loved that Anthony went from a tongue-tied scientist who was flustered by Lexie to a sexually aggressive male who drags her into a closet to have his wicked way with her. I'm not going to lie, I kind of loved that part. I'm easy like that.

Overall, this was a fun, fast read with a spunky heroine and a hero with both brains and brawn. I have a soft spot for those smart boys. And werewolves. And smart boys who have a soft side. And ... Heck, I just liked the book, okay? I liked it!
