Review: Long Night Moon by S.M. Reine

Long Night Moon (Seasons of the Moon #3) by S.M. Reine
Synopsis (Goodreads):
Something is killing innocent people around Rylie Gresham's town. The police think it's a wild animal, but she has other suspicions. There are new kids at school, and they have a lot in common with her: gold eyes, super strength, and a habit of turning furry. It seems Rylie's not the only werewolf around anymore.

It's up to Rylie and her werewolf-hunting boyfriend, Seth, to stop the killings. But saving lives doesn't come naturally to a monster, and territory battles could risk the life of her sickly aunt--not to mention her own. Rylie has no choice but to stand her ground, protect her home, and stop the murderers before anyone else gets hurt.
My Thoughts: This is one series that I've consistently enjoyed and book 3 is no exception. It's a little bit dark, a little bit angsty (in a good way) and it features one ball busting werewolf girl and the boy who loves her.

Rylie is both terribly complicated and incredibly straightforward as a character. There are times when she's driven almost exclusively by her wolf's needs which basically consist of gathering her pack close, protecting her territory and hunting. Then the girl side of her comes out and she is wracked by guilt over her actions. She's complex.

Seth is trying to make something of himself. He stood up to his mom and stayed with a girl who he should have hunted. He loves her but she's a danger to him. His brother is suddenly showing an interest in Rylie that he hadn't shown before and it confuses Seth and sets his inner alarm bells ringing. I do enjoy the relationship between Seth, Abel and Rylie. It's sticky and messy and things look like they're only going to get worse before they get better.

Rylie's future is up in the air at the end of the book. She needs to gain a measure of control over her wolf before she causes even more damage than she has already. The question becomes whether she'll be able to learn that control before she loses herself completely. I'm ready to see how all this plays out.

Long Night Moon was a free Kindle download I picked up on 06/27/12.

  1. This is the series that you made me download, right? I might have to pick those up....

    1. Yes, this is the series that I made you download. I'm so mean to you. Forcing book on you when they're free.

Is it weird that I'm starting to get a case of nerves that I told you to pick all those books up? WHAT IF YOU DON'T LIKE THEM?

    2. *pets you* I believe your reasoning was that if I did like them, I'd want them all. So I downloaded them. If I don't like them, no biggie.

    3. *curls into a ball and tries to control the shivering*
Okay. Okay. Okay. It'll be all right.

  2. Ooooh ... interesting! I don't think I've read a werewolf book that doesn't have vampires in it.

    1. It's one of my favorite YA paranormal series. It's just coooool.
