Review: Kilts & Kraken by Cindy Spencer Pape

Kilts & Kraken (Gaslight Chronicles #3) by Cindy Spencer Pape
Synopsis (Goodreads):
Magnus, Baron Findlay, longs to bring the wonders of the steam age to his remote island home, but his hands are full fighting the vicious kraken ravaging the coast. When he's swept to sea during battle and washes up on the shore of an isle in the Hebrides, he is near death.

Struggling to establish herself as one of the first female physicians in Edinburgh, Dr. Geneva MacKay is annoyed when The Order of the Round Table sends her north to care for an injured highlander. To heal him, Geneva escorts the handsome warrior home, just in time to defend the villagers from another onslaught.

As the attacks escalate and they work together to fight off the threat, neither Geneva nor Magnus can resist the overwhelming attraction between them. But as their relationship deepens, a new threat arises—from within the village itself...
My Thoughts: I have really enjoyed this series since I first picked it up. It's an intriguing blend of steampunk and fantasy and it just flat out works. I love that we're seeing characters from the first book pop up (Wink and Thomas!) and the groundwork for the next book is being laid out.

Beyond all that, though, we get GIANT SEA CREATURES! MAGIC! MAYHEM! SIZZLING KISSES ON A PARAPET! Maybe it wasn't a parapet. I'm not all that good with my medieval castle lingo. Still, I'm sure you get the point. My extreme caps locking should tell you that all those things are full of awesome and the SIZZLING KISSES lead to sizzling other things that are very fun to read.

Bottom line? I liked Geneva. I liked Magnus. I loved the mystical ties he has with his land. I liked that the women in these books are more than just pretty pieces of fluff. They can DO things. They fix people and fly dirigibles and make clockwork critters and weapons. They can shoot and they're just the tiniest bit fearless. And they aren't afraid to let themselves fall into bed with the right man.

In this case, the right man was a braw Highland lord with a touch of magic and a really big sword. *thumbs up*

  2. Everyone knows SIZZLES KISSES will lead you on a slippery slope into sizzling other things. I'm pretty sure the slippery slope is pretty firm, though, so even when sliding around on it, you won't like... hurt yourself. The opposite may be true, actually.
