Synopsis (Goodreads):
The ghosts of the past are haunting Genie McQueen.

The dead have been trailing in Genie’s shadow for months, but now they’ve decided to step into the light. When her supposedly dead mother returns from the grave very much alive, Genie knows trouble is stirring.

Mercy McQueen isn’t interested in mother-daughter bonding time. She’s back with vengeance on her mind and will stop at nothing to make her children’s lives a living hell. She’s brought along some spooks from Genie’s past—familiar faces and ones she had forgotten—to turn every waking hour into a nightmare.

The young werewolf alpha will need to use every trick up her sleeve if she’s going to get the dearly departed back into their graves. And she’ll need to face some skeletons buried so deep in the closet she forgot they were there.

Defeating Mercy will take Genie from the depths of the bayou to the streets of New York, and might just need a little something Secret to get the job done.
Thoughts on Black-Hearted Devil: Man, those McQueen sisters are a hoot. Not to bad guys or anything, though. I mean, they mostly kill the bad guys without asking questions (Secret more than Genie, but that's to be expected because have you met Secret. HA!) and that's kinda rough on those bad guys and all, but the McQueens are FABULOUS while doing it.

You know, if by 'fabulous' you mean they shoot fast and sometimes make things explode just by thinking about it real hard.

Really, the McQueen sisters ROCK.

(Also, I didn't realize how much I missed Secret's particular brand of crazy until she was doing her thing here. Go, Secret!)

But this book isn't ALL about those McQueens getting their family bonding on. There's also other stuff in the works. Like the nagging mystery of that burned woman who's been following Genie around. And Mercy showing up in the flesh after being killed by Secret AGES ago. And other dead people popping up unexpectedly. SO UNEXPECTEDLY.

In other words, you get a nice (somewhat bloody) family reunion AND a few answers. A few more questions, too, but that's to be expected, right? Because things aren't neat and tidy for the McQueens and Genie seems to attract some of the messier bits. Am I worried about what's to come? OF COURSE. But Genie has a way of landing on her feet and I'm sure she'll figure things out. Hopefully. Probably.
